It's called forgetting to turn Strava off before driving or FLYING to Jo'burg! It's happened before!

Strava doesn't work in planes. I tried ORT-CTI. Got the first few seconds of take off and then blank.

I thought about your comment and concluded that you're actually being lazy :whistling:

You'll get a lot more exercise by walking to work

Sometimes I do. Usually when I leave my bike at the shop.

I actually drove to work this morning. In my defence I had a meeting to go to before work.

Now I don't feel so bad. Finished my commute to work, and earned my badge. My fellow Workers thinks this "Mhlungu" is Bat Sh@t Crazy..

That's a whole new level of commitment

Hadn't done the commute in a while and decided to use the old Peugeot Rapport and try out the panniers I bought (on special) from Sportmans a couple of years back already. Panniers worked great and the Peugeot was quite a surprise. Unfortunately another surprise waited at work as somebody (probably as a cost saving initiative) had turned-off the hot water in the showers. Not even a quick cold shower could dampen the spirits though and I see I ended in the top 10 000 out of 144 000 participants - a top 10 finish now that's new!

Many years ago I worked at Unisa. There was a college with real students just next door, I arranged to use the showers in their gym ... till one morning when the water wouldn't get warm ... and I realised it's winter holidays for the students. Man that was a cold shower!

Well done on the top 10%!

In 2001 when I started commuting to work, my office was in Defence Force buildings, and we did not have hot water.  I used the shower with cold water.  But everyday I went to the relative people that was suppose to fix it to remind them to fix the hot water.  Took them almost a year to realise that they will have to fix it to get rid of me.

Most of yesterday's workouts would be uploaded by now ... 449 South Africans participated

Seems like my commute is almost exactly average (median) for a South African - I ended up 223 / 449

The app also counted only the longest ride - so 2 rides of 1 hour each stays just 1 hour.

Had a look at the participation in Germany.  I ranked 1060 out of 3592.  One guy cycled over 10 hours (220km) from Berlin down to the Chech/Polish border.  Somehow I do not think he was commuting.

Yeah I think strava just made all rides part of the challenge if you had joined. The said you had to make the ride a commute but before I had even edited mine to a commute I had received a mail saying I had completed the challenge. In fact I read before that it had to start and finish in different spots but I saw a few rides that where just normal training rides to and from "home" that counted.

Good morning guys.

I know this is all done and dusted, but for those still commuting regardless of the challenge: Can you please always use Strava and always tag it as a commute.

The reason being Strava has a feature called Strava Metro where they analyse all this data and share it with road authorities. We can then potentially use this data to see where new or upgraded cycle lanes are needed.

Had I been in SA I would take part.  But honestly the authorities are already constantly looking into improving cycling lanes.  Especially outside the metro areas as inside the metro areas most is sorted already.  They even launched the first cycling highway somewhere in Germany not too long ago.
