I am gutted. Just about to start tapering for my first triathlon and boom there it goes. Hard work, dedication and family time taken up for training to have it taken away.

Second one this year - First 70.3 Durban and now this.

Our entries are carried over to next year but next year is May and Durban is in June. Not great.

Damn you Sun City

I can't believe Sun City turned away a full house for a weekend. Maybe they're not suffering as much as I thought.

I know thats cynical towards the virus and illness et al, but from a financial standpoint its difficult to believe.

Sorry ycowley, sucks

Very weird.

They held the Cycle4CANSA this past weekend there, wonder if something went wrong with the organization of that event that swayed their decision...?

Surely if C4C went off without a hitch they would have been keen to take on something like the Ultra.

How is Redhub for a first Tri? Seems they want to go ahead for 22 November. I am entered for Durban 70.3 next year, and Redhub might be good motivation to star training now. Have not been in the pool much since Durban was cancelled this year.

I haven't done one of theirs, but am probably going to enter the duathlon. I mean, we all know the cycle route inside out so no surprises there, the run is trail so don't pack your alphaflys ????, and the swim is in a dam so it's smooth and calm. It all sounds pretty good. I think they're always small too so it won't be manic.

It's not the easiest tri you will ever do but it's not bad. The swim is in the dam so it's ok. The ride is the cradle loop plus a bit of the way out to the caves, so a little hilly but again, not too bad. The run, as mentioned, is a trail run but it's mostly on dirt roads and fairly manicured single track so nothing too technical.

I did one there as my first tri and apart from being woefully under-prepared for the swim and then going far too hard on the bike it was all good  :)

I'm not sure if they are happening this year, but if you really want to ease yourself into a first tri, look for the Trinity Tri's at Germiston lake. Both the run and the bike are completely flat,

They sent out a mail the other day saying Nov is a go.

I see on their website the first Trinity tri event is 13 December 2020. Cannot make that one as my daughter has her swimming champs then.

Sorry, I didn't narrow down Jehosefats quote enough.

Redhub, sent out the mail, and Nov race is going ahead

Yeah, I got that mail too. My comment about not being sure if events are happening this year was specific to the Trinity ones

Anyone know whether we still need to park outside the gate at Silvermine Dam on top of Ou Kaapse weg, or are we allowed to drive into the reserve to the parking-lot now if we want to swim a few laps?
