American Classic Wide Lightnings problem

I bought a set of 29"Wide Lightnings in November last year. I have a problem with the rear hub "free spooling" intermittently. In all, it's done it about 6 times that I know of, in around 400km of use. The people I bought it from want me to return it to Cape Town at my cost, and they will then send it to Dragon Sports. That really grinds my gears! The goods are relatively new, within the warranty period, and the customer must pucker up and help them resolve their problems

Alternatively, I can take it to the golf/cycle store in the north, and they will then send it in for evaluation "under their own conditions". FFS

Having not dealt with Dragon Sports before, and not having a clue about their reaction time to matters like this, I was wondering if there are any "approved" service/repair dealers in JHB, that could have a look at the wheels for me, and possibly sort it out up here?

Any help please.

Hi,

For starters, AMC is imported by Cape Cycle Systems and not Dragons. They are the same guys who import, distribute and support SRAM, RockShox, Zipp, Camelbak and many others.

Secondly, you bought it from a shop who needs to assist with warranty. When your car breaks you don't send it to VWSA in PE at your own cost. That BS.

Free spooling is maybe not the right term, pawls not engaging would better define/explain it, so thanks for that  :)

Reading Iwan's mail has got my blood a lot closer to the boiling mark, as I'm pretty sure I'm getting f@#$%d around now by the people I bought the wheels from.

Do Cape Cycle Systems have a service/repair "authorised" centre in JHB?

I am sure they would be happy to tell you in person

https://www.capecycles.co.za/contact-us

I will send them the chain of emails so far, so thank you very much for the contact details.

And just when you think you have found the holy grail of SA's retailers in terms of range, value, customer care, attention to detail, interest in a business relationship, etc. etc. you get bliksemed back down to earth, good old SA-style. Really disheartening :(

Can I use my favourite line? Sounds like somebody needs to find a new bike shop.

Your current lot sound like prime bullexcrement spinners.

I'm going through the motions, hoping they're having/had a bad day, and will come to their senses in the morning and fix the issue. Benefit of the doubt, then a roasting.
