Just wanted to know if there is any differences between your el cheapo cleats vs the more expensive cleats.

 

Are there really any differences and what benefits do you get from them. I need a pair now for my new raod bike shoes.

 

Any recommendations on brand and price in Cape Town perhaps.

Other difference to consider is float range - this sometimes differs.

Branded cleats have become ridiculously expensive.

That is Look Keo pedal, so you can use Keo cleat or Ryder keo cleat. Price is a bit different. You can use both, no problem....

Shimano cleats does not work on Look / Keo pedals (and vice versa)

 

When purchasing the Ryder versions, make sure they are Look compatible. (those on the page are)

The big difference in the various versions of cleat colours is the degree of "float" they allow. 

 

Best to get a set that has the "pads" that offers a bit of protection to the cleats when walking.

No difference. Last time I went to LBS looking for el cheapos, he did not have, so gave me genuine Looks for the same price as the cheapos. I still ride at the same speed.
