Sally is a honey of note. She helped me way beyond the call of duty when I needed a wetsuit....if I were not happily married I would put serious woo to her.. Haha

Ok, so triathlon newbie questions. There will be more in due course, no doubt:

1. Tri bars on a road bike (no TT bike.....yet) - a good option or not?

2. Trisuits - an excuse to show off your junk or valuable equipment - why should one use a trisuit as opposed to just changing with a towel wrapped around you?

3. Wetsuits - the only place that rents them that I can find on the interwebs is in Cape Town. Any suggestions for JHB? (Like a TT bike, buying a wetsuit is a future option)!

4. For all three of the above, any particular brands that one should look at/avoid? (Obviously trying to keep costs at anything less than the US space programme).

Thanks!

1) nothing wrong with tribars on a road bike. Like any other setup make sure you spent time getting the setup comfortable and correct. If you have plenty of money then go for a tribike if you want to. It's personal preference. May be wise though to wait until you know it's something you want to keep doing before you buy a specific bike

2) trisuit - again personal preference. If you're wanting to win and every second counts then get yourself a suit that you don't have to change. But for most people it's no problem to take a couple of extra minutes to change into something dry and comfortable for the ride

3) wetsuit - not sure where you can rent. I'd rather looking at getting a cheap second hand one that you can get comfortable in and train with so there's no surprises on the day. You can always then try and resell it afterward and get some of your money back

Thanks man. Appreciate the input. Unfortunately, given my size (6'5") there aren't too many second hand options available on the wetsuit front. Will keep looking though.

1. many do just on roadbike, tri-bars will help you get better aero, consider having a bike setup done of you decide on bars

2, most use trisuits as just easier, not required though, you can just wear cycling shorts or tri shorts that you can swim in them, then put on a cycling jersey to cycle and run in... then no need to mess around with changing with a towel.

3. try the bike basement, they were doing retntals for Bela Bela https://www.facebook.com/TheBikeBasementZA/  EL you will need a wetsuit, water is pretty cold

4. Invest in a good pair of running shoes... so consider that in your budget

I will either be on the course with you or cheering from the sidelines in Gleaneagles road.

My inlaws place is just before the 4 way stop that turns down to Nutting Hall.
