Gerald a quick question around parking on the morning of the road race - doing the race for the first time.  Is it park anywhere inside the Casino facility or a specific area like at the 94.7? Thanks

@Awesome - I have said to a few "out of town" entrants (on this thread, and in reply to them making contact via the race website) that you can collect your number on the morning of the race.

 

Just allow extra time, as it can get busy, especially on the Sunday when there are more than 3000 people arriving within 1-2 hours.

 

Saturday has always been a "collect on the day" policy. The race only starts at 07:00 and not 05:45 like the road race.

 

We don't advertise that one can collect on race day (road) as it's just too chaotic to handle 1000's of people collecting, but we can (and do) make a plan.

Follow the parking marshals directions.

 

We have designated parking on the left of Carnival City as you drive into their "entrance" and then the main parking to your right. Everyone must park "inside" their property for security reasons as well as safety of them cyclists.

aaaaaaaaaaaaah my 2c worth........ it's not about the goodie bag.......... just like to ride!!!! Huge thanks to the organising commitee.....dont think people know what work goes into this.... CAN BE DONE AT REGISTRATION.

 

How much will the late entry cost?

 

R250 – MTB (60Km)

R210 – MTB (30Km)

R 40 – MTB (6Km & 12Km)

R370 – Road (125Km)

R350 – Road (103Km)

R260 – Road (65Km)

Number Collection

 

Number collection points will be the following bike shops, on the dates listed below:

 

Wednesday, 02 November – Bicycle Company, Centurion (09:00 – 17:00);

Thursday, 03 November – Cyclelab Megastore, Fourways (09:00 – 17:00);

Friday, 04 November – Tour de Frans Cycles, Boksburg (09:00 – 17:00);

Saturday, 05 November – Carnival City (05:30 – 14:00).

 

 

Participants taking part in both the MTB and Road events can collect race numbers from Carnival City on Saturday morning (05 November) between 05:30 and 07:00, or at any of the venues above.

I have been receiving a lot of queries regarding reseeding, and I'm guessing most of the queries are not from regular hubbers. Perhaps an explanation will help one understand how it works:

• We use Cycle Events as the race office - they provide the online entry portal, seeding, number allocation, printing and distribution;
• They in turn use ALL Racetec events for their seeding index calculation;
• ASG use their own seeding index for their own events, and use selective results from other events.

As a result, the seeding index from ASG is likely to be lower for many cyclists, compared to the Cycle Event's one. So when someone says they were in the AL bunch at an ASG event, it doesn't mean they will get into the AL bunch of a bigger Cycle Events race (Fast1, R4S, CCMNC, 947, Argus, etc).

 

ASG events are: Berge en Dale, Emperor's Classic, Jock, Satellite Classic, etc.

 

Secondly, we have reduced the size of the bunch to 150 riders, with 14 groups in the 103Km event (A-N). Being a "flat" race, the groups tend to stay together for longer. We also have a white line rule where Heidelberg traffic are a bit anal and have threatened every year to stop the race if they find cyclists crossing the white line (or into oncoming traffic if there is no line). Having smaller groups won't solve the problem of riders crossing the line and then forcing themselves back to the left of the centre line, but we hope it will lessen the risk.

There is unfortunately also the fact that sometimes the slower or dropped riders taking up road space towards the right or middle of the road forcing either the catching bunch or group to squeeze past on the left or have to take avoiding action and hence riding in places they shouldn't to avoid having to climb on the brakes...

 

Should there not be (isn't there) a rule to keep left and pass right? Think a plea needs to be made on the day to all riders to stay left if they are slow or dropped as to ensure their own safety without road closure and the safety of the other cyclists.

 

I am not ranting just requesting and pleading for it to please be made abundantly clear to all on the day.

This has been announced at our race for as long as I can remember, or have been involved at the start/finish, and something our marshals are required to shout out on the route if they see people riding 2-3-4 abreast (not in a bunch). Unfortunately, some people don't listen.
