We're almost ready to open online entries.

Due to the R40 discount we're offering for anyone doing the "Double", i.e. Road and MTB, we've had to check and double check the process with Cycle Events to ensure it's simple enough for them (entries, payments and seeding) as well as for the participants.

It is posted in the event details, but please take note of the process to follow to qualify. It can only be fone from the ROAD event entries, and not from the MTB link. The discount only applies if you enter both at the same time:

DISCOUNT
Get a R40 discount if you enter the "Double" - any combination of Road (125Km | 103Km | 65Km) and MTB (60Km | 30Km) event.
You will need to enter both events at the same time, to qualify for the discount.

  • Step 1: Follow the link to enter the ROAD event - you cannot enter the "Double" from the MTB link;
  • Step 2: Login using your Surname, Name and ID number - this is the usual login screen at Cycle Events;
  • Step 3: Select one of the three (3) road events (65Km | 103Km | 125Km);
  • Step 4: Select your category (Licensed age group | Tandems or Open/Seeded);
  • Step 5: Confirm your membership and licence with CyclingSA - check the boxes;
  • Step 6: Repeat the above process if you want to add other participants (the usual bulk entry process);
  • Step 7: Once you reach the merchandise phase, you will be able to add one of the MTB distances;
  • Step 8: At the checkout point, confirm that your entry has both ROAD and MTB - the discount will deduct from the MTB event.
  • Step 9: Checkout!

Dear Gerald

Thank you for your email, we apologise for the delayed response.

RaceTec are one of the time companies that we have partnered with and they should send us these events to add to our calendar.

You can follow up with RaceTec to ensure that they do send it through to us to load for points and cash backs.

Regards

Gerald,

What will the cut-off seeding index be for VB?

There is enough space for 120 riders (officially), but I'm sure we can allow up to 150.

We had about 100-120 over the last few years.

We (6 of us from the club) did the Transvaal Galvaniser's MTB race yesterday. I heard a few comments after the race that the route was too flat. Our event will be using the same tracks in the area, although not all in the same direction.

Is a flat route really a problem? There were a few nice (high speed) sections, single track and lots of district road/jeep track. The Team Karan Beef guys obviously enjoyed their race, dominating the podium.

As our (MTB) event is the week before the 947 MTB, and two weeks before the road race, it's probably better to be riding a faster route with less technical bits that could cause unwanted injuries.

It's been almost 2 years since I last did a MTB race and I was surprised by the low number of trail side repairs being done - I recall 3 people having problems with punctures, and one of our own members breaking his chain riding through a water crossing.

Back to yesterday - the lone water point was a concern, even though this was a fast route. We plan to have 3 water points on the 60Km and 2 on the 30Km. Luckily we have a road race the following day to move any unused food items to those water points.

Remember that if you enter the Road and MTB event at the same time, you will qualify for the R40 discount.

Perfect conditions two weeks before 94.7 Road Race.
