Waterpoints should be called "vreet" points

Feedback from "some" riders following the very successful hosting of the PATAT MTB Race was that the waterpoints were well spaced but not well stocked :) Each waterpoint had water, coke, apples, bananas, dateballs and meatballs. Each WP returned leftover water, bananas and apples, some coke was returned as well but NO dateballs and meatballs made it back home. Feedback from the people manning these WP's were it's amazing how some riders just put one item after the other into their mouth whilst resting...actually camping out at these WP's :) ...and judging by the shape of their bodies, it was not a matter of life and death :) Conclusive to say then that some riders enter races to "vreet" and ride or ride and "vreet"...no, they don't want anymore water but pass on the plate plse...rather funny to me. Guess I have to stock up for next year!

I'm glad that I must have been nearer the front then!  There were still loads available when I went through.  Loved the little balls, savory and sweet.

Normally, I only top my fluids, and only eat what I brought myself...goo etc., perhaps some biltong, if the race is far like K2C.

And I weigh slightly over 112 at present.

I normally don't stop at them as I only do the the half marathons. But I have seen some of those "vreeters" going at it

I am a fatty and i dare any skinny peanut to comment on me eating a meatball at a "vreet" point. I also dare any skinny rider to attempt riding the same distance weighing the same as i do and then still have a beef  :w00t: with me. (see what i did there)

But i do agree with you (for a change) Naas, i carry everything i eat and drink except water to mix my own energy drink, with me.

But also said some races, trailseeker and dirtopia (the 100milers water tables were the best ever) for example, has set the standard when it comes to water tables, so when someone pays a good couple of hundred rands for a race they expect it to be a full buffet.

Does that include sitting in front of a tree feeling the world spinning?

/goes to hide in the corner...  :whistling:

They should actually split the tables

To the left all the vetgatte that just want to stand around and eat.

To the right if you just want some water/coke etc.

I usually carry everything I need with me, but only do the half marathon distances. My hydropack has more than enough water and water bottle with 32GI if I need a bit more.

I only stop at tables if they have Jelly Babies.

Personally I think if you pay R220 for a marathon and you receive Meatball, dateball, apples, bananas, water and coke then you should shut up and not complain.

If you paid the price of stage races and you receive this then you might be allowed to voice your opinion and suggest a bigger variety.

Human nature I guess, always unsatisfied no matter what.

The planning to cater for "only-God-knows-how-many -riders-will-pitch" across 3- 5 WP's is a daunting task :)

If you have too many, they could always make their way to the beer tent for prize giving.

Having a lag at you two while chowing on a meat ball and having a beer sounds pretty good to me.

j2c have really set the bar wrt to waterpoints. It's full on buffets...with warm and cold foods and drinks. Think lots of guys are now expecting the same in one day classics.

To the right if you just want some water/coke etc.

Fixed.
