Jaco-fiets Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 ⚠️⚠️⚠️ Yesterday, Jan Bakelants expressed some strong opinions regarding the decision not to throw a large group of riders out of the race for missing the time cut. The Belgian said on Twitter that it felt like 'fraud'. He reiterated his stance to Eurosport television, saying that all the riders should be expelled from the race. Had they made an effort and only missed it by five minutes then he would have been happier with their inclusion in the race.Agreed! What is the use of rules if you do not apply them
HappyMartin Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Agreed! What is the use of rules if you do not apply themHow about the rule that says that rule is at the discretion of the race commisair. That actually is a rule I am told.
dev null Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Agreed! What is the use of rules if you do not apply them I am with Jan on this one. This will set a precedent, with sprinters teams taking their time to finish on a mountain stage, especially if it precedes a sprinter's stage or a team time trial. If you are not going to apply the rule, why have it then? As he said, if they at least made the effort, then apply some leeway.
shaper Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 The break - Davide Villella (Cannondale - Drapac), Mario Costa (Lampre - Merida), Silvan Dillier (BMC), Sven Erik Bystrom (Katusha), Luis Angel Mate (Cofidis) and Julien Morice (Direct Energie) tackle the only climb of the day, the Alto Castillo de Morella (3.4km, 5.2%). Last gap: 2'42. 74.2kms to go
dev null Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Does not look like the peloton is letting the break go for the stage win.
Gen Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 It seems like I can't stop now I've started but here's another funny thing . . . We checked out all of the buses we could and we saw riders chatting and smiling, posing for photos and generally doing good PR. I'm sure they were still all focused on the day ahead etc, but they were being nice. Simon Yates was warming up on a trainer with his helmet on! Other riders were chatting, warming up, talking to mechs etc. Team Sky And CF, who I obviously like & support, were polar opposites. They weren't talking to each other, let alone anyone else. The team came out of the bus one by one several mins apart and rode their bikes straight to the sign in area. Then when they came back to the bus between sign in and race start their bikes were put onto trainers and they spun to warm up. I know they take things seriously and they are "at work" but I just felt they could have done a little bit more. The only Sky rider who came close to giving a photo opportunity was David Lopez, who was asked in Spanish by a mum for a pic of him and her son. I guess the odds are high at that end of the field, but Bertie, Nairo and AV have as much to lose and they seem to find time for a smile and an autograph. Let's see what today brings . . . .Interesting you are now the 2e person i know to experience that.. my buddy in France goes to watch a few stages every year at the TDF and Dauphine .he also makes the trip to Belgium for Flanders..says the exact same thing.. says sky always corner off a big area and little to no interaction with the public. The one Sky rider that does interact is Thomas the rest Nada... Also probably explains why they aren't maybe as loved by the public as the other teams.. He also says DD ag you can walk up and go check the bikes.. you would probably even be allowed in the bus if you asked..[emoji23] [emoji23] Tinkoff much the same., very warm towards the fans. Those things make a difference IMOI've said before Bert spends a good 5 -10min before each stage taking pics and signing autographs.
ScottCM Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Jean-Pierre Heynderickx (Dimension Data team director): I'd like to talk about Jacques Janse van Rensburg who was in the break on Saturday when he crashed in the descent from the first climb. Despite his injuries he went through the three others climbs and reached Aubisque. On Sunday morning he was told he had a broken collarbone and yesterday he went to Germany for a complete checkup – he is also suffering from a hip fracture. We are all amazed by his bravery. We'd like Kristian Sbaraglin to win for him today."
Gen Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Oops... wrong thread Then again, can Sagz ever be wrong, hey Gen? Never [emoji23] Sigh I miss him..damn man.. how long till world's. [emoji6]

shaper Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Break down to 2'05 68kms to go, almost over the hill and going to be a fast run in to the finish!!
Gen Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 I expected more big guns in the break. Let's see if some more riders wake up and try to bridge. They'll be burnt after the queen stage and yesterday's tempo training..... pre-rest day tactics, my guessYip.. a truce.. okay.. so we had a coffee ride yesterday, today is your turn[emoji6]
Gen Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Mmm just tuning in.. Aah they'll keep the gap there for a while.. but they'll bring it back I reckon.. the fast guys also want some glory. They'll let them dangle there till about 20 km to go..or there abouts.

shaper Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 The leaders averaged 42.7 km/h in the first two hours of racing. The gap is down to 2 minutes.
