I would really have loved to do this...but I would need a couple of years to reach the endurance levels required. My friends Stewart Lombard and Annie Labuschagne are in their second day and planning on 18 daysish in the saddle.Man thats tough

As an elite athlete*, I would like to make the following comment if I may:

(Yes, I know many have now spewed their coffee into the keyboards)

Sure, it's a huge ride, long hard days (and nights) I was fitter than I have been since Weermag days and days 1, 2, 3, ....n still gave me some serious Opf*ks. In fact, knowing what I know know, I just wonder. I wonder how I did that.

It's a "head thing", if you want to do it, you can and you will. That's it.

And by the end of it, you'll want to keep riding and not stop as the last 24 days (in my case) were one of the best things you have ever done.

Go and do it.

Some big decisions happening right now:

Leon and Estelle went past Tinana late and have gone on, about to cross the Tena river and then still have some way to go to the start of the Vuvu Valley - at this rate they will see the start before it gets dark and going in there in the dark is a big call. I have bashed around there with Leon very late at night - not sure I'd do it again. They could be in for a long night even with their previous experience between them.

Philippa and John B look like they might turn around and go back to Tinana - given their pace, Id think that would be the wise option for them - just my opinion.

Johnny and Gerhard are further up the trail, but not into or even seeing the real Valley yet - they will be in and trying to exit in the dark - another brave call.

How do you see the overnight stops on the tracker?

the blue pins are the Support Stations (SS) with intermediate/ emergency stops also shown like that. If you hover over the SS its name comes up.

John B and Philippa are going to sleep at Tinana. Sensible call, otherwise they will spend the night (without a fire) in a donga, without underfloor heating, but with running water.....

They must get out early and maybe push for Rhodes, depending on when they get to Vuvu. Fortunately the weather is good. Night entry to Rhodes is not a problem -- unlike Vuvu.

Seems like wisdom has prevailed and John B and Philippa have decided to stay over at Mrs Kibi at Tinana, the other two groups may provide some entertainment which the cricket wont

Vuvu valley blindfolds have been applied, subjects wandering in circles - looking for anything familiar, a light in the distance or a tyre track would be gold right now....so near, yet so far.

You do see a lot of lights when you in the valley at night all around the rim . Even a red cell tower light of to the left but the cell light at Vuvu you don't see , cause it ain't working .
