Shane Little's navigation skills are seriously impressive for a first-timer on the trail. He nailed the tricky Vaal Bank exit in the dark this morning.

PS not intended to be a jinx

A decade in the British Army Air Corps plus a goodly number of pretty serious rides under his belt. That's our man.

okee dokee, I've got my 2012 spreadsheet out.

Martin Dreyer: 2012/2017

Allendale: 12:45/ 12:00

Ntsikeni: 22:00/18:00

Masakala:blank/6:00

Malekholonyane:17:00/10:45

so he's going about 6hours quicker so far!

I think that they will link up with the R396 on the other side of Naude's Nek. That is a tough road even in a diesel bakkie. Lehana's for the win every time imo.

John Bowen and Philippa Crocker went past Kranzkop late, its a long way from there to Moordenaarspoort......it gets very cold in that area at night

Looks like they may be using their "knock on a door" at the farmhouse at the bottom.

marty hit vuvu about 7ish.

not sure when he got there in 2012, as he had a catnap in tinana and then dondered through to get to rhodes at 1:30pm the next day.

BUT last year in his sub 50 RTR he was there 9:30pm. so 2 and a bit hours ahead of last year's pace. I'm guessing he will try and get to rhodes before 6am, and claim the honour being the first nincompoop to do the RTR in less than 48hrs.

There's no real 5 day marker.

or a 7day/week marker

the next big milestone is Diemersfontein in 240hours.

I was at the finish line in 2012, he reckoned he wasted time in a few places. I think all the low hanging fruit to Vuvu have been plucked now!
