Getting Dropped

Train to race ???? so you spent the whole of winter training and then got klapped in the first race -  make racing part of your training. race winter league

while racing is good as a form of training, there is a fine line. If you race all the time and weekends on the go consecutively, you lose quality training cause you always want to be "good or fresh" at the race. Race every 2nd week in off season or once a month. Build form for 3 weeks and test at a race. Then build again.

i never considered myself to be an out sprinter;

1 sec -    1375

5 sec -    1320

10 sec -  1102

Think my problem is not doing enough intervals, will start working on that.

Tnx for feedback gents..

Those are good digits for Kill.Arnie

And, there's the engine and there's racing skills

The one doesn't lead to the other

There's lots of online articles on training to be a crit racer

Have a read here:

According to Hunter Allen & Dr Andy Coggan (How to train and race with a power meter), a "sprinters" profile should be taken with 5s, 10s and 20s peak power values. But more importantly, you need to know what type of sprinter you are.

The links below explains a little more in detail and is a start point to find your strengths and weaknesses. It's good to put your entire power profile together, i.e. 5s, 1m, 5m, 20m (FTP). They even include the normalized power for 60m and 90m.

Step 1 - determine your power profile:

http://home.trainingpeaks.com/blog/article/power-profiling

Step 2 - determine your fatigue resistance:

http://www.hunterallenpowerblog.com/2013/10/fatigue-profiling.html?m=1

The test they refer to is horrible, but the most important part of the test is to do it under similar conditions and route each time.

Your weight according to your FTP result is 68, so that puts your max effort (5s) in the Very Good to Excellent range - when benchmarking yourself against your peers.

However it doesn't tell the whole story. But read the two links, as it's a starting point which determines the type of training you need.

If you cant get to the line it doesn't matter what your sprint power is. Sprint power isn't going to get you to the line so work on the weaknesses that are contributing to not getting you there and improve.

I got dropped going up breedt's nek on the back from the shop on Sunday.

To add insult to injury.. I was dropped by runners ( in my book more like sprinters)

I get dropped by Chery QQ's and Tata Indica's going up Comaro now that my friend is embarrassing  :whistling:

Ha ha! I rode up that hill so slowly during the Gravel Xpress! It felt more like I was practicing track stands than riding! The 100m or so that I walked were the same speed as the sections I rode! Now that is embarrassing! :w00t:

I was seriously questioning choices I have made during my MTB carreer when these muscle and sinew powerhouses came cruising up that hill, barely out of breath....

Then as imminent death to my quads was being discussed in my mind, they came cruising back down the hill, while I still had some way to go.

So Yesterday.....

Went into the race feeling  very tired( solid training in the bag), at the start I was even contemplating starting in Cat 2.

But as it would be jumped off with snakes again

First I would like to thank all the hubbers for advise , kind words,

Did some Tabata, and Intervals in the week it has completely changed me , yes not only could I stick with the snakes , I had enough strength to attack , go with smallish break and even have a small pull.

Biggest Inspiration coming from the topic .

LET KNOW ONE MAKE YOU FEEL THAT YOU DONT BELONG THERE

Best feeling ever is when you look at riders around you and you see the pain, sweat, can hear the suffering and you like, ARE WE IN THE SAME RACE... coz this is a walk in the park... ok a jog   ?

Now to Start chasing that 5wpkg and 1400 max...
