Hi All

Looking for some input and feedback on your experiences with bike mechanics in the Cape Town area, specifically regarding wheel truing services.

Who has stood out for you as offering the best in terms of accurate & precise wheel truing work?

This is something we all need to look at having done from time to time on our prized wheelsets. Some claim to do it well while others excel.

Cheers

Marc is a top bloke - still missed by many of his former Crown clients. LOL

Kevin @ BMC did good work too but he's no longer there. (haven't had work done by any of the other guys)

Anybody know where Kevin is.?

Anybody knows who in George does wheel / rim truing? My rear wheel is so scew after re-doing my tubeless conversion, I can do a 90 degree turn without turning the handlebar.

A bad day cycling is better than a good day working.

Same happenend to me. After fitting new tires, valves and sealent my front weel does 'n natural turn the entire time. Based in JHB north. Thinking of using Linden cycles

Richard from customised cycling solutions is good. He is based in Fourways

In the same area, Roger from Bicycle Service Company also does a great job

If your wheel is out of true after doing a tubeless set up the chances are good that the rim has been damaged.  Truing a wheel is not too complicated but when anything other than spoke tension causes the problem your success in truing is not great.

I can highly recommend Marc Carr at Swift. One of the best wheel builders around and one heck of a nice chap to deal with.

This guy. He replaced one of my carbon spokes on my Mavic R SYS. they are still running sweet..Marx cycle worx on FB

This morning I spend quite some time trying trueing without the tyre on, got it almost 100 % but then I noticed that the rim isn't only out of true, but it seems oval now as well. Can I buy hoops, ZTR, for example and have it rebuilt with current spokes and hubs? Difficult to cash out R4 - R5k at the moment for complete wheelset at the moment. Currently have Alex 29er rims on which came with the bike as standard.

Truing is not just lateral, you have to true it round as well (towards and away from the hub).

If the new rims are similar in diameter to the Alex, and the spoke count is the same, then you could reuse the spokes and hubs.

Well, took the wheel in this morning and it has been fixed, but............the tire, Maxxis crossmark, has developed a bump on the sidewall, thus the reason for it looking so weird.
