you hit the nail on the head there, Shaper.

65k was pretty comfortable for me before the break, 95k was going to be a stretch but I felt it was do-able.

Now I think i'm really going to have to do some work to build up the base again.

I have a giant cyclotron mag trainer - good idea to do some training on it for a while in the evenings?

Overtraining in this truncated timetable is a reality you will need to keep an eye on.

Looking at your said level of fitness you need to perhaps employ a 2 days on 1 day off approach.

If you feel this is too little try a 3 day on 1 day off - on this you can do a ramp up, then a harder ride and then a recovery ride.

most of all forget about the time - ride to complete as best you could at your pace.

I am worried you are underestimating the task of the 94.7 - it is tougher than many think when they decide to take on the challenge.

Notes:

1. It is brutally hot - if last year is anything to go by and considering where your potential seeding will place you.

2. A LOT of the climbing is towards the end.

3. if you can make it easier for yourself - DO SO. whether it means fitting slick tyres on your mtb rather than the knobbies.

Hit that trainer if you cannot go out to ride during the week but make sure you do some training as weekends only is not gonna cut it.

Edit: follow the workouts and if you record your workouts with a garmin or similar then you can upload to TP and monitor you performance and training

Very good advise here on the Hub.

Train when possible...how often...how far you can...especially in the next 4 to 5 weeks.

Try to do a few 100+ rides...maybe every second weekend.

Use weekends and possibly Tuesdays and Thursday if possible (keep rest days in mind).

Taper off your training the last week, or 2 before the race.

***Might be a good idea to also train in hotter conditions.

It is your first 94.7, just train as you can and enjoy the day out with fellow cyclists.

Then you would know what to expect and hit next year's race with all you got and then train accordingly. Don't think TOO much about an expected time.

As mentioned the last 20km's are the hardest with 5 climbs still ahead...keep that in mind and come prepared...eat before you feel hungry...drink before you feel thirsty.

Stop at the waterpoints if you need to...that is why they are there.

Come race with an open mind and be positive and most important enjoy the day...you might even hit your sub-4. Good luck.

Did 38k's on Saturday and 30km yesterday - getting there.

With two spinning sessions in the week and some running I think we'll get there!

Just got to get used to the time in the saddle now.

You need to up your game a little bit..at least 60km Sat and 50km Sunday.

If you can ride 100km over a weekend you will be fine. Remember you aren't going for a podium and you know that you are going to suffer in the last few km's.

Enjoy is as a day in the sun. Try find people that are like minded and will just relax and ride with you at a given pace.

+1, teaspoon of cement, few gu gels, some rehydrate and vasbyte and you will be fine, just don't expect a sub 3 hour time...
