Yeah, there's a very small number of guys on the hub who thinks that if they sell something for a bargain (which would more or less be what you bought if this was in brand spanking new condition), that they can put broekn **** on something and then claim "but it's really worth 1.5x, and I sold it for 1x"

I hate those guys. Please give said guy a bad rating, next time I might buy one of his bargains...

So this turned out well.... Probably not so much for everyone, but life happens.

I'm in the market for a hardtail again. If anyone spots a lekker deal on a medium 29er,please point it in my direction asseblief, I need to get back on a bike. R15k ceiling unfortunately.

I would prefer a bike with working components, but wouldn't mind starting another thread like this ;)

I reckon settle your finance first. Contractual obligations and all that.

And I reckon put the old broken bits back in the cube, and ship it down to connie. Being hard assed about R300-400 shipping while getting a full refund says as much about you as this whole saga says about connie. Give it back to him like he gave it to you. Not a penny more, not a penny less.

If through this whole saga you learned what to look out for in a 2nd hand bike, then it probably wasn't fruitless.

There are some great deals out there, and if you work on the buyer beware principal you should be fine.

Problem is that if even if I remove my fingers the lever just goes back more. The chaps at the shop showed me that unlike Shimano brakes, SRAM (Avid) brakes applies pressure to the brake pads the stiffer you want the lever to be. So for me to get it to feel less spungy I need to set the it up so that the brake pads touches the disk....apparently thats how old Avid brakes worked.

So not the Shop's fault. That is the way Avid works you say.

The money will be paid back which is good.

Please come back to this thread if Connie of Montagu threatens again "with the whole finance thing and was told that things are going to get ugly from here for me."

Here is a life lesson for others in the OP's position who has won the battle but may have lost the war. He was clearly sold a lemon by an unscrupulous seller but his own behaviour made getting redress problematic.

When you play loose and fast with your legal obligations - SARS, the banks, the law, your finance company, etc - you weaken your negotiating position and open yourself up to unintended consequences.

In this case, the OP may well have got the money back - note not HIS money, as it rightfully belongs to the finance company who are most likely fully entitled to demand it from him plus the interest that they may have forgone, leaving him with a debt, no money to buy a new bike and nobody willing to finance his next one.

You're absolutely right it really does say a lot about me being hardassed over a few bucks... When I have had a bike that I paid for hang on a repair stand for 10 days, everytime I look at the bike I see something else wrong with it. Having to listen to promises and excuses on a daily basis. Not being contacted at all but have to phone after him daily, being done in, being sworn at, pointing fingers at me telling me that I am the one that buggered up the bike... Then still try and have the decency not to out him and his business on social media. I must be a real asshole.

I have already started making arrangements to rather use the money and do the right thing and settle the finance, so thanks for the advice.

Hoekom almal net my veroordeel van begin af,ek aanvaar dit.

Double j betaal jou verkoopte bike by BIKELIFE klaar en koop n nuwe dan weet jy alles is 100%.

DOUBLE J good luck buying your new bike.

ps. I offer him this bike.
