Please Can We "get Kyalami back"?

A month or 2 back I called Kyalami racetrack which as many know is under new ownership and has been refurbished at massive investment, to ask if/when the track is ever going to open for cyclists and was given a "nope"..

Cyclists being able to make use of the track after hours on certain days made a huge difference in that office-bound cyclists were able to get some much needed mileage during the week.

How can we go about respectfully requesting the new owners (Porsche SA) to let us do so once again?

Who is in support? .

Maybe someone here knows Toby Venter, the boss and can very nicely ask.

I think it is especially relevant as 94.7 Cyclechallenge and the circuit owners have seen fit for us to do a lap which ostensibly puts the revamped circuit back on the map with approx. 30,000 cyclists?

Maybe we should start a poll?

or buy a porsche, they will let u do a lap or 2..

but jokes aside, they may wanna use the 94.7 as the launch for the track again, so we wait and see.

Start boycotting porshe by refusing to buy their cars.  :w00t:

I'm with you, when i worked in Randburg i regularly cycled there in the afternoon , it was safe for cyclists and joggers to do laps. Used to see a number of top Jhb based pro's there as well.

Give it time, the track has only recently opened and they are milking it as best they can for race days, club days and Expo's etc.

Track hasn't changed that much as have driven it, areas of change is at turns 1 & 2 and at the bottom of the mine shaft.

Doubt whether you will get any luck before this 94.7 but by next year maybe, perhaps after the cycle challenge has been and raced on it.... wait and see.. I guess

Maybe they'll let you use the karting track. "you want laps? That is how you get laps"

But yes, was rad to ride after work till fairly late with a light in complete safety. #willputaporschebadgeonmybikeifitmakesyouhappy#longhashtags

Seriously though, to improve the chances of being granted access, we need to get the message out to all 947 participants to keep litter (gel packets, water sachets, etc.) to a minimum, on the entire route but especially Kyalami!

Interesting that they want the exposure from cyclists on day  but don't want the cyclists outside that .

Would be really great  PR to open in weeks leading up to 947

I used to do some work with the 94.7 organisers....will try to have a chat....94.7 also used to participate with I think it was Cyclelab at the riding clinics at Kyalami in the weeks leading up to Cyclechallenge...
