Only thing I can come up with is he thought the final was more technical and he could pull a bora/lucas Giro stage 1 victory. But kudos for trying as those last few kms where hectic and not for the faint hearted. He may be a bit older than most of the guys but he always gives 101%

I would've expected that they go with Renshaw as their best bet in a sprint.
