I use Dates. 1 every 10km. Cheap as... well Dates. I just chuck a bunch in my jersey pocket when I head out.

 

They come in a convenient edible biodegradable package/skin

It's not a R50 tragedy if you drop one on the road. Some critter will eat it

You don't have to keep guey wrappers in your pockets

They taste much better than those horrid gels

They seem to not make me spike and crash

They also give you something to do with your tongue for the next km

Hi 5 Zero in the bottles.

Half a tab for rides between 1 and 2 hours, whole tab for anything over.

For longer rides add liquorice all sorts and bananas in the pockets.

Anything over 5 hours just eat everything, and as much, as I can get my hands on.

I tried Hammer Nutrition (Mandarin) for the first time this weekend. The taste can only be described as "vlou suiker water" but I'm fairly certain it did what it's supposed to
