This is why cyclists fear for their lives...Being annoyed is the least of it

this what the PPA Wider of the rider should be spending their money on - awareness campaigns are great but don't/won't change attitudes. tracking down motorists and charging them with reckless driving will - they need to know that there are consequences for their actions.

Too busy asking motorists to share the road, as if cyclists are new there and are infringing on motorists' rights. Even #StayWider has almost disappeared from view.

Posted on the boast thread a while back. My new Cycliq Fly12 light with HD video. I have the rear Fly6 video light from Cycliq too. Nothing happens on a ride near me that is not recorded in HD video, with sound. It may not protect me but I can review the evidence.

In my case I am not sure keeping evidence might be in my best interest...

I plead the 5th your honour...

the drunk who killed Jared and Richard da silva on the M4...i dont think he has seen a court room since he walked out on bail...rumour has it that it was R10 000 but apparently dropped to R2000 because he supports his mother and father.

the huge hype...a committee formed to address cycling safety...600 + cyclists attended the memorial...including the mayor of Durban...blah blah blah...i get the feeling everyone is hoping it will be forgotten and the drunk can slip into court plead guilty and and take a R 5000 slap on the wrist for being a naughty boy...if it hasnt already happened.

Was going to bring this up actually. Does anyone on here know anything more about the drunken f*cker!!

Surely he must be in big poo...this can't just turn out to be a fine and slap on the wrist??

Even in our small part of Europe here in Northern Ireland, there have been two guys killed in the past couple of months on roads within a few k's of my house. Both hit from behind in the early morning. The difference here is that they closed a very busy road for the whole day whilst they forensically investigated one of the incidents and I am confident that the law will properly follow its course.

Few years ago a drunk driver crashed into a group of cyclists not from the Fountains circle.  Two killed and one seriously injured.  Driver was so drunk he could barely stand on his feet. At the end got a fine and a couple of months house arrest.

did she note the registration number? if she does, i think he can still catch a serious wake up call when she lays a change of dangerous and negligent driving, and driving away from the scene of what I could consider an accident.

ek voel vere for as2hats like him as i do for self-indulgent red robot heroes on bicycles.

As far as I can remember, only a traffic officer can lay a charge of dangerous and negligent driving.

Best we can do is  to report the incident, and then report the other vehicle fleeing the scene :(

On that note, a #douchebagmotorist nearly drove into the side of my car today after work, when he came flying into the street from a slipway without looking or even pretending (nevermind actually doing it) to slow down. I even had my car's headlights on

This is why I want to buy a steel frame and modify it so the top tube can be removed. that way I have something to "explain" to said motorist why its a bad idea to not think before running over another human being. Not talking about beating on said motorist, talking about taking out a few of their windows.

I realise that motorist are not aware of cyclists and pedestrians.  What blows my mind is the weekly occurrence of nearly being taken out cycling back from Jonkershoek by massive 4x4's with a couple of bikes on the back.

I think you're looking for a frame pump

She didn't get a reg number sadly. If he is a regular we may spot him again some time though. She won't stop commuting. There have been other less serious incidents over the last few years, but she keeps on going....

Have you considered getting a camera? It won'tt stop the incidents occurring but at least you might get some form of retribution.

Because a p0ep0l is a p0ep0l.  Wether he is on a bike, in a car, in a bakkie or walking, he remains a p0ep0l.  In South Africa people are more aware of their p0ep0lness when the p0ep0l is on a bicycle.  They don't notice them in bakkies or cars as there are so many of them.

Never mind being taken out. I drive a double cab. I find it crazy to see how some people speed on that road.
