Since the Road Traffic Fund is now broke perhaps SA will work on actually preventing accidents . . . ?

Wrong thread.  You should post on the Friday Funnies thread.

Saw a report on Cylcing Today - rider in the States was killed by a car. Car coming in the opposite direction stopped and made off with the poor guys bike. So its not only in SA, although I bet it has happened far more often here.

So this morning at around 10am my fiancé and I were riding along Victoria towards HB. Just after the hotel. Single file. In the yellow line.

There's a left hander just after a lookout point. There are white concrete barriers on the left hand side of the road. Those who ride the road will know it well.

A guy in a Renault Sandero lost it going around that corner. The back end came out and he rode straight into the barriers. This happened about 20m in front of us. He then slid across the road and almost took out 2 cyclists and a car coming the other way.

Someone stopped and said that he had been driving like a lunatic overtaking 3 cars at a time on the straight bit before the hotel. I asked him if he'd been drinking and couldn't smell anything on his breath. On reflection I'd say based on his mannerisms he was high as a kite.

There's a lot of detail I've left out but we're both feeling blessed to be alive right now.

Good to hear he didn't take anyone out (you/fiance/other cyclists/another car/pedestrian/etc...). Hopefully it'll be enough to scare him into being more responsible, though we all know that's unlikely to happen and he'll have some external factor to blame for the whole thing...

When I see people driving like that, I often find myself hoping for karma like this.

Glad you are ok! Hope this knob learnt his lesson.

it sad when you heading down the road at 4.30 am to meet up with a few mates for an early morning ride and you see lots of blue...orange and red lights...the first thing that comes to mind...one less dangerous or drunk driver to have to worry about this morning :(

I know not everyone driving at 4.30 am has been drinking or heading home from the pub.
