It is impossible to predict the wind along the coast accurately further than 48 hours in advance.

And then to predict it accurate per hour is even tougher.  PE owes us a good day with a light Westerley breeze.  The past 5 races it was a strong Easterley.

Also remember to activate your bull**** detectors for April Fools day.  They are most likely to say the bike route was lengthened by 20km due to road works or something!

The wind last year came into play on the last 45 km loop back into PE. By then one is a little tired and gatvol of cycling and then the wind picked up. My average took a nose dive but this is also due to me beginning to conserve energy. A nice tailwind into PE would be wonderful.

But it is what it is. the wind is predicted to be 17km/h with gusts of up to 47 km/h. I think I can live with that. (but of course the weather prediction will change many times before 2 april)

cant remember the wind speeds of last year, they were probably around what is predicted. So long as its not 100 km constant gales we should be ok.

Its my first one. I'm hoping for

1:30 swim,

a purposefully slow 7:00 cycle,

so that I have enough gas left over for 5:00 run..

Saying that my training has stalled badly over the last 2 months so my expectations are dropping fast..

Ultimately depends on conditions, especially the cycle leg . The times bouncing around my head are

Swim 65 minutes , taking a chilled swim

Cycle - 6:15 pushing when I can relaxing when I cant

Run 5:36 - I run ***, no other way to describe it.

Transition times T1 + T2 = 25 minutes

Total 13:25 - 13:40 is my goal time. A long day out. Realistically it wont be less than that but could conceivably be 3 hours longer...:)

What is everyone's finishing time goal?

As it being my 1st time, i have 3 goals:

1. Dont die !

2. medal (even if it is 16:59:59)

3. smile for the family on the road

don't mean to be the anal one but cut off is 16:45 these days

Did not know that!

guess its time to read the athlete guide

Not sure how they police this effectively, if you start early you could conceivably finish and get a medal and they may exclude you after the fact.

I only have one goal - to run a 4 hour marathon.  Do that and I would have had the perfect race as it meant I paced myself perfectly on the bike and during the rest of the day...........

Targeting a bike average speed or time is a very dangerous thing to do - believe me I have learned this the hard way.
