Hi guys

Need some advice from the pros.

I have completed amashova in 3 55 and have signed up for argus and 94.7.

I am wondering what would be a realistic target for both those races?

Also, it would help if others post their comparisons from the 3 races.

Thanks in advance

CTCT is a long time from now so enough time to improve.

947 is toughest with all the climbs at the end.

I think Amashova is the easiest from the lot.

My 2015 Shova was 3:42 and 2016 CTCT was 4:00:50.

Just finish your training rides up that first one from the Amashova, and ride hard down ;)

The Argus has Suikerbossie closer to the finish, and apparently the 94.7 also has the climbs at the end.

For me, the hard part of the Argus is AFTER Suikerbossie - keeping up on the climb is fine, but almost every time my legs are buggered at that point so I struggle to keep up on the run in to the finish.

947 is less than 95km, meaning 10km short than the Amashova, and 14km shorter than the CTCT.

If the 947 was 10km longer, you're looking at 2:35 for the winning time vs 2:20 for the Amashova. Time similar to the CTCT.

Each of these has their own character.

The Amashova has a brute of a hill at the start then a couple of leg burners in the middle but most of the 2nd half is downhill. But the end of October is notoriously windy and if you have a NE blowing it can be a killer on the last 30km. Nice mix of urban and rural KZN. Some good descents. Fewest riders by far which means that your bunch can have a free run but if you get dropped you are on your own.

The 947 has some bumpy bits at the end so you need to conserve energy. Shortest of the 3 by about 10km. Mostly ridden through built up areas. Can be a bit windy.

The CTCT is the easiest on a good day. The hills are not that steep and are spread apart so you can recover in between. But if the wind blows ... Eish! It can then hurt real bad. Can get a bit crowded on the road in the middle starters. 35000 bikes is a lot!

If your fitness stays the same as you were on the Amashova

Add 15min for the Argus

Subtract 10min for 94.7

This is based on my own experiences ,yours might be different

Good luck and enjoy

It's irrelevant to compare these three if your fitness isn't exactly the same for all three.

Yes we can compare distance and elevation, but you'll *** if you're unfit.

How long have you been riding?

What type of a rider are you?

Last year I did 3:19 @ Shova.

And went on to a 3:07 @ 947.

I am more comfortable on climbs than hanging with the powerhouses on flats.

A friend of mine says he found 947 tougher than Shova.

I personally found the Shova tougher, due to more descents and having to sprint to keep up with the bunch on descents..

94.7 in 2:30, shora in 2:40 but never sub 3 in CTCT.

August is too scenic, a fun ride.

94.7 is nothing to see, shova is the privilege of bridging 2 towns.
