If that is all it takes to set him off then I fail to understand why he would have allowed the club access to his property in the first place and we are doomed to loose the trail anyway.

I'll stick with my assumption that we have a number of naughty riders not sticking to the trails. Something I have seen a few times on the Tygerberg Trails

Maybe, but again, without the facts, your assumption carries as much weight as my alternative. The owner is probably hyper alert as its a new experience for him, so the slightest thing may well have him reporting to the club...

I am now scared to ride at Hoogies. Not only will I have to prove I paid with my phone, but there is now even more trail for guys on hard tails to try and race me on :-)

guess you don't have much of a problem on the gravel roads you okes up north ride...

Guess you've never riden up here...

I'll go one further and say I guess you didn't get enough attention as a youth... shem.

Guess your sarcasm filter needs tweaking :-P

Up Norf the farmers drag you behind the bakkie for a km or 2, beat you half to death with a piksteel and then asks you of you missed the trail markings.

Jip. In snake town they come and whine on a bike forum. Go figure.

We are so hard down here we have races were trail markings are moved on purpose just so the organisers can get threatened with being beaten.

At the one Trailseeker... Lot of angry people. Then at the next one extra distance and more angry people. You wouldn't get that kind of masochism in a Jhb race. (except maybe that Juma-se- thing)

Who's trolling? I was merely pointing out the obvious. These threads are constantly about trails in the Western Cape.

And the relevance of this so-called WC trend to the topic at hand?

Probably because the overwhelming majority of trails are on private land or land with entry restrictions imposed on them, and we are particularly sensitive to the potential loss thereof due to the inconsiderate actions of a few. Very different to up north where there are more open spaces and public dirt roads and trails

And add to that the considerable financial investment clubs like TBMTBC make to establish these trails. At Kliprug a good couple of ZAR was spent, only to lose access due to rogue riding, hence the sensitivity on the topic, particularly in the Durbanville Hills. Many of these farms are family owned, and not owned by Rhodes, Anglo or the like, so the land owners are usually involved in the day to day running of these farms.

Most of the trail parks here are on private land. The spruit is public but I'm not sure of how many more other than those secret spot that are kept away from the public. On the point of monies spent on trails... We all know trails ain free. Why would it be any different here? So back to my orginal statement. What is it with residents of the western cape rough riding? I seem to have trampled on some toes here maar dis waar.

Pardon my ignorance, but is there any benefit, financial or otherwise for the land owners or do they allow the access entirely out of the goodness of their hearts? Just been wondering.
