if it was me I would take this post down and call up and speak nice to oom chris personally and if he cant help ask him to refer you to someone who can make a decision at cool heat

oom chris is a really good guy but if he says its no then only shimano (cool heat)can decide

I don't think you are helping your case by posting this yet

just my 2 cents

Bollocks...

On the OP's issue, after 5 months I would also be more than peeved if that happens. When next you go to the shop, insist on talking to someone who has authority to make a decision before you take the next step.

I've already had more than one run-in with CWC staff about issues with items bought there. Every time the issue had to be escalated to Junior or Senior. Personally, I find Junior A LOT LESS approachable. Like to stay at the back and relay responses back via staff. Senior I find accessible and more than helpful to resolve the issue to your satisfaction assuming you have a reasonable case to start with.

BUT frustrated having to first chat at length to staff only for them to say ... have to check with management. Think staff get little room to make decisions.

I would have thought that the best thing for cwc to do would be to add a quick 1 line post stating something along the lines of "we have noted the issue raised in this post and are busy getting our ducks in a row."

And then to post a full response later on once they have contacted the op. At least that way it doesn't look like they are just ignoring the issue.

Some of you guys have really short memories eh? When have CWC EVER ignored an issue raised here? Bernard has kept his side completely clean by keeping it specific to the product in question and asked for opinions on whether anyone else would consider it valid for a warranty claim. No one needs to assume anything else about the service at this point.

(Matt, can someone please alert Oom Chris directly so that he knows?)

So...

Looking at the OP's pictures carefully, and some other online examples and a cross section of the specific rim:

The amount of corrosion and its location (some areas are far away from the nipple), it cannot simple have been caused by neglect/detergent etc, because the corrosion (galvanic), would be more localised.

That rim is manufactures with plies of carbon laid over a full aluminum rim.

That pattern of delamination is more likely related to corrosion between the layers of the original rim where the carbon is not isolated from the underlying aluminum rim.

I'm speculating a manufacturing flaw, and that we will see loads more of these in the future, or shimano have changed their production processes and this is only seen in a specific production run; either adding a layer of glass (which I haven't seen), or anodising the ali rim before lamination.

Nobody needs to assume anything about the service, OP has stated that he has been there 3 times now. That speaks for itself.

It must be so frustrating for Oom Chris, that he has to do everything himself.

Aye, should've been dealt with appropriately the first time, unless CWC are under the impression it was, due to feedback from staff who have already suggested that it is accepted wear and tear. The consensus suggests this is wrong.

Clearly there is more to this and Oom Chris is best placed to deal with it and maintain the standards he sets in the service that they aspire to provide, consistently across the board.

Agreed.

I really feel for him. How is one supposed to build a business and grow it when you need to deal with each issue personally.

Are they "CWC" even aware of this thread?

Perhaps someone should notify them.

Purpose of the thread was to ascertain if we thought it was a warranty or wear and tear issue.

This wasn't and surprisingly hasn't turned into a "*** daai ouens" type thread.

OP has inputs and he seems like the type of guy who will also come post here if CWC sorts it.

It will probably be even better if it is sorted before Oom gets made aware of the thread. They should fix it because it's the right thing to do, not because it was brought to the Hub.

Why?

What makes them so special? No one pings Neils Wheels / Cajees   when they are being discussed here?

Maybe CWC silence says something about the OP's complaint? :whistling:  Ok, I'm speculating now but WTF it's Friday!!

Maybe issues get sorted because it is on the Hub! Damage control

All I can say is Oom Chris understands customer service. For the rest, I think some if his offspring falls a little short of the mark.

Just my opinion from personal experience.

Cut Jnr some slack - he is still on honeymoon! :whistling:

Thank you for warning me in a way.  I was about to purchase a pair of these from chain reaction:

But did note that in the reviews, that they are either brilliant or rubbish with little in between. There are many reviews by parties that bought to have same issues as you or worse. There may be a serious issue with the manufacturing consistency on these.
