I always just thought it was to be able to train the route beforehand, but loading it up this close to the event makes me wonder. Do you have the route loaded on the day? I load the target time for the ride, and it will show me the time to the finish, as well as other bits of info. This is particularly useful when trying to get a group to the finish at/under a certain time, and pacing is important.
