I just told hubby we would need to go down to the midlands in the new year so I can go find some hills to climb.. and I need to find some more technical roads to ride.. one of my biggest obstacles will be trusting those skinny wheels..if any of you have been here you know what our tar roads looks like.. they are straight.. on the ride I did today I turned a whole of 8 times.[emoji85] and that was turn right turn left etc..no sweeping bends no Nada. In amongst the 10000 other riders.

We would probably have to come up with a discreet but obvious method of identification - it can't be too obvious - not many of us have fully come out of the hub closet yet!

rolling down 3 days prior on another 600km journey ?

No, leaving it to the last week to enter events - like many others do. <-- that's how we roll [emoji16]

Small victories.. before Wednesday I hadn't ridden in a good few months.. and when I did it was short 1hr rides.. every couple of weeks.

Wednesday I did a 1hr24 (according to the garmin) but I made the mistake of going a bit hard so I rested on Thursday, yesterday I did a 1hr44 and today a 2hr15.. and kept the HR in the green zone.. apart for 15min between 1hr33 and 1hr44 (both yesterday and today) I battled to get the HR down as I found that was when I started getting tired.. but today after that 1hr44 the heart rate came down more easy for the rest of the ride to stay in the green zone.. even rode past my house but I hadn't reached 2hr15 yet and went to go ride squiggles to find the other 10min.. tomorrow the aim is 3hr all still slow and steady before a rest day on Monday and then to repeat the recipe for the following 3days..

I did say baby steps didn't I [emoji23] [emoji23]

I must say I have the best hubby.. no problems riding at a slow pace with me. While I aim aiming for the green HR zone he is leisurely trapping in the blue zone on his MTB, I feel so guilty but he is happy to do it and full of support for me

I must also add, .every time I am on the RB I feel a bit more comfortable and a bit more relaxed.

Well this was funny.. woke up to pumping wind.. so I decided that and out ride in our exposed area would be a killer.. BUT I did ride.. I rode our dorpie flat.. very flat.. 3 hour worth of loops.. my youngest son joined in for a lap and then he had to go study and then I was solo.. but it was actually quite nice.. only my own thoughts and it is so safe.. I got a flat at 2hr35..but changed the tube no issues and carried on.. hubby came out just to make sure I could manage okay lol but I got my 3hrs.

Our dorpie is only 13km in circumference mm so I had to get creative

What's was nice was the beer that was waiting for me as I got home[emoji23] [emoji23]

I started with the outside loop then the inside loops then the horizontal loops lol.. the time actually went by quite fast.. I thought it would be a very long 3hrs.

Tomorrow is my rest day before I repeat the recipe..

But I have to go buy new tyres as the piece of glass cut through the tyre.. [emoji35]

Not impressed with myself, I saw the glass but it is was going at a lekker speed and didn't have the time to avoid it..[emoji53]

On the plus side.. changing the tube was easy peasy..

Down side.. my butt is really tender and was throughout the ride.. only TITS will help with that.. but I do plan on spoiling myself with a couple of really good bibs [emoji102]

Because I am coming off a lot of watching cycling I am approaching the preparation as follows.

Short term goals and just TITS

And been told to stick to the HR zones and under no circumstances to go above that for the next 3 weeks.. even if it feels like I feel good.. to ignore speed and distance that will come..

So I will break down the prep and work in 3week blocks..

The first week to increase time on the bike by 30min every day for 3 days.. have a rest day and repeat the recipe for the next 3 days.

You guys are really more than welcome to give me more training input I am very good at following instructions.[emoji4]

Fortunately the timing is good..my youngest finished exams on the 1st so my afternoons will be clear and I will have a lot more time than before.

There is just 1 week in DEC where I won't be able to go for rides.. but I am thinking I will take the bike and IDT with to Sodwana and do the stationary thing for that week.

I have done the calculations for my HR zones etc.. and I will also adjust my diet a bit.. I don't have 30kg to lose but the way my clothes fit atm I reckon I should at least lose 6-8kg.. (I don't have a scale so I don't know how much I weigh.. but I am guessing about 62 kg..)

This means it is the last Friday I can buy pancakes from the oom that comes round the office[emoji53]

I only just read this thread now! You go, Girl! Good luck for the quest...

Remember those Thor Buttox only last for a while... :) #theoretically

Will be interesting to see your progress up to the event next year. Good luck.

For your very big dorpie, you could do loops from small to large. Turn left on every vertical street to the bottom, thereby creating small loops. Pass the first loop and turn left at the next one. As you go, you skip the previous left and turn at the next, and thereby you keep making the loops bigger.

I have a similar layout close to where I stay, and use it for interval training - sprint the short sections and recover until back to the same point. The sprints get longer each time. Not saying you must do intervals, but it does make for some "alternative" routes.

Going strong Gen. You said you weren't doing much cycling before this so don't do too much too soon and burn yourself out.

Thx.. yes I am being very careful with the riding..making sure I am keeping it in the right HR zone 70% of max HR.. well I had a few moments today when I couldn't keep it there..because a few stupid dogs decided to chase me[emoji53] the last thing I want to do is end up hurting myself with to hard too soon... first step is just building endurance at a easy pace..

I am well aware that this is going to be a challenge and I need to be very careful how I prepare for it.

PS If you saw my average speed you would see if am definitely not riding too hard[emoji85]
