What time is sunrise in that part of town? The race was scheduled to start at 06:00, so I guess a similar start time could/should be considered. And I guess the start time should be the "leave" time and not the arrive at Piggly Wiggly time.

I think Piggly Wiggly will be a sensible start point, providing their gates are open that early in the morning (when no race is taking place).

Depart at 6 should be fine.

Piggly has open parking lot.

You need to contact Cycle Events at queries@cycleevents.co.za for refund queries.

I saw that, and have not had a response yet.  This cryptic referral to a nameless email looks more like a subterfuge than a genuine intention to refund - has anyone actually received confirmation that they will get a refund, or better, received a refund?

This thing is starting to smell funny.  These okes have taken close to R5m.  I fear they plan to keep every cent.

No comms yet..but seeing as this all happened over a weekend, I will wait for today for an answer from cycle events who we had to contact regarding refunds before I make a fuss.

No fuss, I'm just pointing out suspicious behaviour.

Why dont they  have a formal statement on refunds if they actually intend to pay people back?  Quite simple, really.  "If you want your money back, here is the process".

They have not handled the matter properly to date, and the obvious question of refunds has been largely ignored.  My worry is that they have NOT stated that a refund will be paid - they have merely given you an email to inquire about refunds.  This is far from transparent, and feels like they are ducking and diving.  The cost was high - just under R1000 per entry.  They have a duty to be honest and upfront

They haven't handled any communication very well actually. They themselves still haven't released a statement, only a link to the CSA release..very poor indeed.

To be honest I will be very surprised if we even get refunds.

I really hope you are wrong, but I fear you are not!

Surely they are only the online entry portal and it would be subject to their agreement with the event organisers. That money has probably already been passed on to the organisers less their cut which is normally 10%

Not that I will ever claim to be psychic, but as far as a Refund is concerned. Close your eyes, think of how many "holes" could have been plugged by your total expense. Then think how 35K cyclist who entered CTCT must feel when the forfeited their entry fee. Then kiss your money "Goodbye". The precedent has been set by CTCT, followed by Le Tappe. Even more of the similar will grace our presence in future. Sorry mate. Your money is gone. Better to enter established seeding races with a respectable history is what I can suggest. Naturally, cyclist will be wary of niche events in future. (Still, it makes you want to d%nn%r the living daylights out of the guilty).
