Update

Peter Sagan

That was weird. I saw his name and my initial reaction was "why is he coming out of retirement".

Le Samyn was fun to watch.

Plenty of attacks and Van Der Poel doing a big job cancelling attacks for his team-mate to then win the Sprint.

Qhubeka Assos outperformed DQS, placing a rider in the top 10 and Campenaerts occupying decent airtime riding solo up the road.

World Champion Anna van der Breggen (SD Worx) earned five per cent of what Davide Ballerini (Deceuninck-QuickStep) earned for winning the Classics-opener Omloop Het Nieuwsblad in Ninove, Belgium on Saturday.

Wout will want to repeat last year’s glory.

Mathieu attacked 80 kms from the white chalk to work on ‘lost form’ after leaving the UAE tour prematurely.

Sep also looking sharp although he may be disadvantaged with a slightly bigger frame on the steeper climbs on those white roads.

So many other prospects.

Gonna be good.

About that.

This is an important thread from the CEO of Flanders Classic

I think a lot of effort is made to give women more TV exposure.. It takes time to get to equal pay.

Apologies, I could have done better as well to comment on the women's race. We can all do more to watch and talk about the women's peloton.

Previously we had the excuse that it isn't available to view, but now on GCN+ they give decent coverage to the women.

To that point: Le Samyn Dames was arguably more exciting in the finish than the men. Plenty of attacks and reactions in the run-in.

Let's all do our best to tune in for the Women's races and give them credit.

I think an argument can be made that that is the case for most of the women's races or at least for the ones that I have witnessed. Rarely is the win (by a specific rider) a foregone conclusion and the races are often pretty close. The La Course that Annemiek Van Vleuten won by chasing Anna Van der Breggen down and hauling her in on the line springs to mind as an example. All in all I have generally found that the women's races very entertaining.

As for Le Samyn Des Dames I think we got a great winner in Lotte Kopecky and her team worked really hard to ensure that she had the best shot possible at the win and she delivered it.

That definitely doesn't sit right nor does the idea that a good portion of the women's peloton are poorly paid if at all. One can understand why most of them make the most of their social media presence to push their various sponsors products or the products of people they've met through their careers. Fortunately as Gen points out there is an effort being made to change this particular situation.

Honestly it is refreshing to see the efforts and commitment from the Flanders Classics team. Hopefully theirs will help other role players commit as well to change how things are currently. A lot of it is rooted in the need to change the perception regarding women's racing and women racers, in fact for most of women's sport in general. And by that I mean that is that we speak of their achievements in the same way as we would those of a male athlete. Once that happens I reckon the money side of things will fall into place but in between then and now there's still a lot of hard work that needs to be done to get us there.

@Vetplant

Yes, conversations are happening. Talking is cheap though if it does not partner with ongoing actions and sustainable reform. Prize money is not at the heart of the issue, but an important indicator of status and the gap in social rank.

The recent cases of sexual harassment and sexual abuse by male managers / DSes is another important indicator of the broader issues.

Any case, are you ready for Strade and the Women Roubaix, Sweetie?
