I have an all but complete bike (26"MTB) that I'm not going to finish, was going to get rid of it today due to moving house tomorrow (no space, the wife is looking for any excuse etc.), you're welcome to it.

I will gladly make a contribution to? pay to have a lekker hole dug and towards the concrete to fill it. BTW I fully expect that the same "authorities" that didn't enforce the law properly before will try to be difficult about this. I will have a strong message for them...

Hi Guys.

Apologies for not keeping you updated with the progress for this project.

Patchelicious has kindly donated a bike which I will be collecting this afternoon. The plan is to get one of the boiler makers at my employer to weld a steel stake to the frame ASAP. V12man has kindly offered to give the bike a lick of quality paint which is expected to last far longer than a rattle can job.

Once the paint has dried and the bike is collected. I will make use of a labourer to lay a small concrete slab in which the welded stake will be embedded to prevent theft.

Patch has not indicated what the details of the bike are other than it is steel/chromo. If there is componentry which is not needed for the memorial and can benifit Divernick and his Build a Bike operation I would like to donate there.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all that got in touch via PM and on the thread with donations of cash or parts.

In no specific order.

And another big thanks for Tubehunter for the encouragement.

Sad project I must say. But I think the resault will be a reminder of a great bloke and how fragile our existence is. Be safe everyone.

Thank you for heading this up Neil.

Perhaps we can use this thread to organize a memorial ride.

I like this idea. If all goes to plan the installation should take place next Saturday(10th) morning(I'm thumb sucking here. There is no official timeline). Maybe a Sunday 11th ride? Roll to Bidon for a coffee?

Any suggestions for route etc welcome.

I hope I've not left anyone who offered assistance out. I didn't go through the original thread.

If I have. I'm deeply sorry dudes and dudettes.

THANK YOU!

If there's any shortfall or last-minute cash requirement, please let me know where i can EFT.

I've recently started riding along that stretch of road and i would like to make a contribution.

Thank you for doing this - i will stop and pay my respects as soon as it's erected.

RIP.

I have been on the road collecting my daughter from school in Hoedspruit. As a result I didn't catch up with forum posts about my brother today. I arrived home around 8pm. My sister (who has flown up from Cape Town fo the memorial service) told me that she too has been following the thread about my brother. She told me about this thread.

I don't really know how to express the gratitude, pride and sense of honour we feel having read about what is being planned.

All I can muster is "thank you". It's a bit feeble given the magnitude of what this gesture will mean to us as a family. It is a beautiful thing. In a world sorely needing beautiful actions such as this.

I'm truly overcome

Suffice it to say we will be there.

Hi Anthony,

Nothing you have 'said' could ever be taken as feeble! I salute you and the courage shown, given the circumstances. Many of us may not be able to make the trip to the memorial in the morning, but please know we are definitely WITH YOU in spirit and sharing to some extent the feelings you are experiencing!

The 11th sounds good. Not sure about the starting point, but Bidon is a good finishing spot.

We will need some marshalls on motorbikes, not sure about JMPD?

I feel that a memorial ride is not just to pay our last respects to a fellow cyclist, it is also to remind motorists that we are also using the road and to make them aware of this tragedy.

Jmpd, in my mind would be essential for this.

Please lets do this according to the law, I would suggest parking at the featherbrook villiage shopping centre. Short ride to the site, placing of the bike and then ride on to bidon.

Not sure about the process of arranging a police escort, but it's essential. Especially on HP.
