Captain Fastbastard Mayhem Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 What do you guys think about this Trek 9.7 for 7.2k ? https://www.olx.co.za/ad/mountain-bike-trek-9-7-carbon-medium-ID16685E.html#1b05b15b82Both the BMC and spaz are better options As for your fear of broken frames - that's what insurance is for
Christofison Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Ya you're right. I should have been clearer. I'm talking more about damage to the back triangle of the frame or the piece that connects to the rear shock. I'm unlikely to break either of them but it would haunt me in the back of my mind. But it's also just about not needing the classy design etc.Well in that case, if you break the rear triangle of a hardtail you will be even more screwed. This is probably even more likely because it won't absorb big hits like a full-sus would. Sent from my E5823 using Tapatalk
PhilipV Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Hey there . Between the two, be aware that the BMC has the lowest end suspension, the ride quality of fox on the Merida frame will far out preform the BMC with poor suspension components. Feel free to call us if you need any other assistance. Enjoy Bike Market 082 220 8527I disagree. And yes I have ridden both. The bmc virtual pivot point design outperforms the faux single pivot of the Merida. Besides, the Merida is running Manitou and Xfusion, while the bmc has fox. Did you maybe swap it around to what you meant?

Pulse Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 There is always risk with buying 2nd hand, and more so with carbon.I've never seen a rear suspension rocker break.Get the spare rear triangle from Philip, and get the BMC
Mintman Posted December 6, 2016 Author Posted December 6, 2016 Hi guys, the BMC Speedfox SF02 is now available at a reduced price of 7.5k (i'm going to go with a cheaper hardtail for basic commuting and no stress fun. If Philip is willing to give the spare triangle to whoever purchases it then I think it's really good value. I've seen the bike and can say it seems to just need a solid service and cleaning. From what I could see and was told, the shocks are both in great condition and the frame too. The front tyre is brand new, never been ridden. Anyway, I have no interest in the matter. Just trying to help the seller out + drop some bait for potential buyers. Thanks for all your help!
Shebeen Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 It's funny, I was just saying how people are quick to say 26" is dead but not so quick to drop their old 26er prices. I mean they're obviously priced way better than their newer 29" counterparts but I still think 5/6/7 year old bikes are more expensive than they should be. They wouldn't get half their asking price from any 2nd hand reseller. Thanks Gumtree and co... Obviously the people selling them need cash for their new 29ers. It's a cruel cruel world.dunno - the bmc was probably about R25k 5 years ago, going for R7k now is not bad bang for buck, depending on condition https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/223183-turner-5-spot-dual-sus-26er-xl/
