are you guys in JHB not going to take them on to stop them?

This is what I'm wondering? Mike Bradley from the MTB commision has handled situations like this before.

it is going to be truelly a nanny state, but also I wont be able to listen to all the ppl moan, cause they dont do anything to fight for what they want. So typical that everyone else is waiting for someone else to take the fight up.

I think the whole issue surrounds the legality of who sues whom should  an accident occur.

Currently by ignoring the development, JHB City Council have given "tacit" approval and can then be held liable and accountable should someone break their neck.

To safeguard the CoJ's legal standing, they have no option to remove the structures. If the guys want to re-build they would have to apply through the relevant dept and then the lengthy investigations begin.

If they are removed, I would like to see them re-built at the Farm.

Are you talking Albert's Farm? They should be abel to build nice stuff there. I remember when I was in primary school there use to me major jumps there. For some reason the damn was also bigger.

Build an illegal structure in a public area, then there's no reason why Sipho can't build a shack ......

Just because your jump might be used responsibly, doesn't mean it has a right to be there.

Just another example of a**hole quad and dipsh1t mx riders f.....g everything up for everyone ...... even themselves.

LOL

All those structures were built by Mountain Bikers for use by Mountain Bikers. The journalist cocked it up big time by mentioning quad bikers and mx riders.

This  does not just affect the guys that ride the north shore stuff, but also all the XC guys, as the see-saw's over the little stream is a  "north shore structure" as well.

Not the cleanest water to walk through..

Someone got contact details for guys who built the NS stuff.

I have a venue for them to build whatever they want. They can build a rollercoaster if that takes their fancy.

Hector Norris park as a large area surrounding the track that is not utilized. This area is perfect for building jumps and obstacles. Guys can build as much stuff as they want. BMX track can be included in free riding area. It is also possible to establish a permanent single track cross country course. With a bit of imagination, you could probably get about 3km worth of single track in.

Thanks

Is there a way to know when they will start dismanteling it? Could always have a sit-in when they arrive.

This brings ups a scene from "THe Hitchhiker's guid to the galaxy" when they wanted to bulldoze Arthur Dent's house and he went and layed down infront of the bulldozer. The drive then asked him if he knew how much damage the dozer will sustain if he drove over him.

The builders will take the stuff down before the guys come to destroy to safe the wood and stuff to use it again.

I am one of the "Builders"  Here is the deal.

City Parks learnt about the NS stuff because we contacted them as a gesture to work with them to maintain and improve the spruit as we were fully aware that we had not got explicit (or implicit for that matter) to build the stuff.  The person we spole to is a big beaureucrat and cannot get past the fact that we did not ask him first.  This is why he is insisting that it must come down.

We have been in dialogue with with the affected parties and we offerred that if it was to come down, then that we would do so.  (As we want to keep the materials and as a show of good faith that we will work together with City Parks.)

The NS stuff is coming down next weekend, so if you want to ride it, hurry.

Our next step is a meeting between some of the builders, Bryanston East Community Forum, Councillor Earp and some representatives from City Parks.

Personally I view this as a temporary set back and even if we don't get the NS back, I think we will have a fast track into City Parks to continue improving the Spruit as a MTB trail.  We have no hard feelings, a little disappointment, but we were always aware that this could and probably would happen.

I think we will however need plenty of support from the MTB community so pretty soon I will initiate a petition to show all parties the feelings of the users of the Spruit as well as the quantum of people who derive enjoyment out of it.

I will keep you informed of developments.

(Anyone know where I can buy a quad?)
