Hey

So I know there has been abit of bashing of tony for just putting the picture up with the topic heading suggesting theft. But having looked at the add I would seriously consider this a flag for a dodgy add.

1) Its posted by a Lyle who from what I can see only has had 1 advert, its the first thing I look at when buying online. (I am not a OLX guru so that might be one active)

2) If it is a sale of the whole bike then the of the add at Rockshock is very odd.

3) Pricing is way out at R10 000 which is very odd.

4) And probably least red "flagish" is that photo. But most people keep thier bikes in a storeroom of sorts, (I have no idea why, I like to keep mine in the living room so I can look at them).

My question is when all these flags are raised, in a town hundreds of kms away how do we get someone to investigate it further? If it is legitimate then good luck with the sale to Lyle.

But as the cycling community we really should care, if there is a EASY market for stolen second hand bikes the risks of riding them will be even higher.

James.

Hi James

Those were precisely the thoughts that came to my mind

It wasn't the bike per se but the place where it was kept etc

To find it I searched  OLX, Western Cape, bicycles and most recent. Voila

I hope that the rightful owner sees it

Mine was stolen, a Scott Spark 940, in Worcester on 31/12/2016. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170106/af4abad0edcba680a31e0eb86873365c.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170106/5e68ffe02ab632122d6e69176713b23d.jpg

It had great sentimental value for all the races etc etc

Regards

If using Chrome, right click any pic to search Google for websites where the pic is posted. Sometimes the scammers just copy the pics straight from ebay or somewhere else.

Uhm... Why was this thread even started? It's not Friday, there's not an AD link, and, what can we do other than make some useless comments about "ya, he"s a skelm ne'! going to somme ride into him if I see him"?

There is no need for this reaction.

Quite a few times over the years stolen bikes or scams have been flagged on here just like this.

He saw something that he considered a little dodgy and at least had a shot at doing something about it.

Look, I don't have anything against this thread, but without some more information, like the link to the AD, this thread was useless. Of course you should post something that looks dodgy, as it might be someone else's stolen bike. But put up enough information to make it relevant, otherwise we are posting a lot of photos of dodgy bikes, which is useless.

Yes, well done Tony. Many bikes have been recovered because members of the community share information.

Well done for contributing to the Cycling community.

To the others, shame on you for shooting a oke down who is only trying to help, an oke who knows what t feels like to have his bike stolen.

Someone I know was contacted in Paarl and a similar bike was offered for R3000.00 If your bike was stolen I can put you in contact with that person. He actually sent a photo to me which I posted on all the local Whats app groups. No one there was missing a bike.post-10429-0-91574400-1483689209_thumb.jpg

Well it could be the bike as well after all it is a Spez, and maybe, you know, like, uhm, err, the oke was too embarrassed to keep it in the garage.
