Wow, if ToxicD could see this topic, his mine would be blown. An issue, some educated debate, people understanding differences and a solution. win win win

It's almost like we are all grown up, and mature human beings hahaha (And on a Friday  ). Must be the new year, give it 2 or 3 months and a bit of work related stress and this thread would have looked very different!

Ha - just lucky he didn't buy it from CWC, otherwise he would be a box for daring to claim that they may have done something remotely wrong.

I think the guys who work for Specialized Concept Store don't know what they are doing....

I had a friend who had problem with his bike for almost 2 years and they can't figure out what is the problem. They only found out now that the headset setup was other way round....

I'm happy to get my chain line within 0.5m of dead center. I can't imagine 3mm would make a noticeable difference on a system that moves as much as a chain system does between the 10  and 42. Also, are you sure they didn't adjust the spacers on the crank to compensate?

Nope, definitely didn't adjust the spaces on the crankset. I also did not think 3mm would make a very big difference, but it really does. Like I have said, moving from a 3mm offset to 6mm offset means that my chainring has less than 1mm clearance with chainstay and the chain rubs against the tyre, and moving from a 3mm offset to 0mm offset really gives a bad chainline - especially when in 42 (I spend alot of time in 42 on hills).

And besides, there was no reason for them to compromise, 0mm, 3mm, and 6mm offsets are readily available from suppliers. And when you are paying 70k+ on a bike and another 1k on a chainring I just don't expect unnecessary compromises...

I have now put the 28t with 3mm offset on so I don't cause more damage.  I am spinning out on flats, but all suppliers open on Monday, so I should be able to have the correct 32t by the end of next week. Will just see if it is going to be on my dime or Specialized's dime...

If your dime, Lyne Components do a SRAM compatible direct mount 3mm offset chainring for about R430...

I am running the whole crankset and it works as well as anything else I have ever owned. (had an ABlack 32 oval for aaages as well).

Just something to consider if you have to fork out for yourself.

Thanks for this!

I am thinking of going to AB 32t, but did also see that Lynne one - amazing value for money! I think I will buy a 30t from them to have on those very hilly days.

Concept Stores..... my favourite.

I think that you have a valid case with them.

I also think that your approach seems rational and that really helps your case.

Good luck, keep the thread update, will be good to know the outcome.

Will do, was going to call today but I think as some people have mentioned it will be better to go in. Will get some time over the weekend and see what they say
