Bateleur1 Posted April 7, 2017 Posted April 7, 2017 If you do this 3 x during the week you'll get super strong! It takes a few weeks / months for the body to condition to riding every day... when I started my 30km daily commute I was properly tired... now I can add some detours or Engen ride before my commute and legs aren't complaining too much True. With my commute being 70 km per day I also have to take it easy starting with two then three commutes per week and then taking it up to 5 which is actually difficult as I can't cycle in the rain to work (no place to hang wet clothes). Manage last year once to do 5 commutes and a weekend ride. Did 560km for that week.

When I was doing my 40kms(800m) x 4 times a weekly commute this was my Joberg2C training.

REcently started commuting with Nancy Drew ... the first week we did 50 the Monday and the Wednesday, and that Wednesday evening I was in bed at 8! Was wondering about setting up our own little 'Sani2C' challenge where we train a bit and then try to do the Sani2C distance and vertical ascent in commutes in one week.
Nancy Drew Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Good to see what seems to be at least three ladies in the top 10 positions. Maybe we'll be able to up that to four soon

Now that would be an interesting challenge. I looked at my last Sani2C data from many many years ago and got the following (Polar Data): Day 1: 82.8km 1225m ascentDay 2: 103.8km 1825m ascentDay 3: 78km 960m ascent That would mean doing +- 264.6kms and 4010m ascent over 5 days commuting
Flemish Lion Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 We're doing Sani2C this year and I've achieved the distance and ascent 2 weeks ago and very close last week... will try achieve it again this week Damn - I forgot we're talking commuting and excludes weekend rides. That would indeed be an achievement! I sadly don't have the time to attempt this

No ultra mel and fillet steak... Maybe I'll stock up on vanilla milk and ultra mel in the office for the week of the challenge

Bateleur1 Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 Jeepers, guys have been clocking miles. Hope our weather improves quickly here.

Bateleur1 Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 I've been slack this week, but life has just gotten in the way.. Tomorrow we commute again Predictions for us tommorow morning is -6. I like my hands the way they are right now so might give commuting a skip. Will be on standby should the weatherman have it wrong though as there is no rain predicted for tommorow.

Bateleur1 Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 -6 !! I'd give it a skip tooo! What's your threshold? 0 and up? Pretty much but at 0 I really need to motivate myself, which is difficult now as we had warmer temps. At the end of winter I am more inclined to take on 0 than now. The moment I get gloves that can deal with less than 0 I would go for it but with a roughly 75 min commute to work after 45 mins my hands take a beating.
