Not sure if there's another thread on this already.

I see joBerg2c will this year have a single speed challenge sponsored by Miele.

You are allowed to change your gear ratio every day, which helps. But you still have to be seriously tough (read stupid) to attempt this!

Have any hubbers signed up?

Grant Usher and Nic White did it a couple years back already. Finished up top ten overall if I remember correctly?

We've done the J2C on our SS rigids in 2014 with actually various others, all & all there we probably 7 or so riders(2 girls) on Single Speeds. All honesty the SS is not the issue but the rigid fork the first four days caused a lot of fatigue and pain in the lower arm muscles, from day 5 the trails became smoother and all went well. What I appreciate from the J2C on SS is that you have more time checking out the scenery, no worries about looking down to know what gear you are in. Next time I will prefer light suspension like a Lauf fork and then it will be epic! Best stage event ever. DO IT!!!!

I am in - rigid single.

Interesting way you would say stupid? Crazy yes - but then again it is our poison.

Wrong choice of words, no offense intended. Edited my original post

I've entered the first 3 days to sterkfontein. Don't think I could manage the whole 9

What bike you riding on? Look out for me on my SIR9 fully rigid

No offense taken. There is enough time to train for the full 9 days :-)

We are team: OneGear Diehards - I am in a silver Momsen STR-29 with black carbon rigid and red grips. My team mate is on an orange on one.

I am sure we will be suffering together. What gears you going to use the first 3 days?

Hi guys,

nice to see that there is a handful of individuals who are keen to ride this awesome event on one gear!

I did it two years ago with a fully rigid 29er with 34/18 the first three days and then 32/18 until the end.

Last year with the same bike but with a Lauf fork (which wasn't much better) and 34/18 the whole way!

This year again on the same bike but with a normal suspension fork (more time to enjoy the trails) and probably 36/18 the first three days and 34/18 the rest.

Just can tell you that Joberg2c is the perfect event to do on a singlespeed. If you don't stress yourself it's

almost easy to reach the beach after 9days.

Please don't use crankbrother pedals as they can not handle the torque of a single-speed. Broke already 3pairs.

Don't hesitate to ask if you want to know something.

Looking forward to have a few beers out there....

Cheers, Danny

I've been riding with candies for almost 6 years now, no problem. Let your LBS maybe check them out for you.

Nope, he is right, destroyed a ton of them on SS... went to shimano a few years back and had no issues since.
