On my early morning rides I ride my mtb on tar......visibility is bad so the mtb is more forgiving with potholes and missing drain covers, I live in a very hilly area and the gearing on the mtb is better, the bike is heavier and I get a good workout........is that allowed [emoji15]

AnythingBut

Mind your language

Seeing that you were challenging in your post....

NOW WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?

HUB motto - Always take the piss if anyone dares to bring up a valid point.

So no, I will NOT mind my language. You and the rest of the Hub Mafia owe me an apology.

Ek is moer gatvol vir mense se stront opmerkings. The topic was posted with the best intentions.

Exactly.

What happened to the concept of minding your own business?

Dear mr Original poster. I never realized it is illegal to ride a mtb on tar. I assume you don't drive any kind of SUV/double cab/ Prado on surfaced roads?

Clearly you did not read the first post. And that is assuming you can read? Comprehension is apparently an acquired skill.

The rant was not against riding a mtb on tar. LET ME EXPLAIN IT AGAIN (if you battle, please ask your boyfriend to translate)...

MY ISSUE IS WITH CYCLISTS CHOOSING TO PUT THEMSELVES IN DANGER. THEY ARE ON A MTB, WHY NOT GET OF THE ROAD ONTO THE DIRT VERGE, INCREASING THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THEMSELVES AND TRAFFIC (which are going at least 120km/h past them).

This section of road is not far from where a deputy-head boy was killed by a speeding cop around 2 and half years ago whilst cycling.

But, yeah, you are right. Why the hell should I worry, I WILL MIND MY OWN BUSINESS. Just remember that when posting your next condolence message

Bud, you are going to give yourself a heart attack. It's not worth getting this upset about.

I think your intentions were good. Dont let your original message get lost now in anger.

Have a beer, it's a Saturday after all :)

It's really not personal man. We're just disagreeing. Your solution to upping cycle safety is for cyclists to get off roads? Let's increase driver safety and also ask cars to stop using roads?

Any cyclist then for that matter! It just happened to be MTB. I was questioning their decision to deliberately putting themselves into a space where they can get hurt.

Bleddie hell, my post was meant to be sincere. Supposing to be looking out for other cyclists.

But alas, some fucktards that will always be full of it

You start the thread off with: 'just a quick rant'

Now Google rant and it comes up with the following: 'speak or shout at length in an angry or impassioned manner'

Hardly seems like a message of concern. AND THEN THE CAP LOCKS...

I'd imagine the reason is that they are not feeling unsafe on that stretch of road and I'm guessing roadies ride there with the same speeds of traffic and don't feel the need to get off the road or avoid it. It's human nature, if there is a road most people will ride on that rather than beside it. They are obviously not looking to be offroad else the chances are they would be somewhere else riding 60kms in the bush I guess.

If your issue and concern is with riders putting themselves in danger just by riding on a road then the pure fact is everyone of us at the moment is in danger everything we roll out on our roads at the moment. We make our choices based on what we think is apt. I'd never ride up Constantia Nek in CT as I think it's super dangerous but loads of riders do every day. Personal choice, I feel safer that way and some people won't ride where I do because of the same reasons.

I know you're feeling attacked here but it's a public forum so you have to expect all kinds of comments and truthfully going off like a frog in sock isn't going to get any better response.

Those mirrors of cars can catch on the handlebars / broomsticks of the mountain bikes ????

Sounds like you are very anxious about the 'what if...'.

Cyclists can roll wherever they want of course.

Whether dirt bikes or the elegant bikes.

I hope, naturally, that the death on the roads ????

That is understandable.

This was a group on a training ride. There are no trails around

That's maybe why they were on the road(?). Maybe they don't have road bikes.

Personally I'd rather be offroad, but that's me
