MTB on tar - Why?

Anythingbut,

We are all cyclists here.

And face the same risks - whether it's moving metal or slippery off cambered tree roots

Notice the trend of challenge back to you.

It's not what you communicate

It's how you do it

Both are equally important in sending a message to the public

Be safe out there

I was relaxed and sincere from the beginning.

Untill some decided to attack my character. This will result in me loosing it - none of you are in the position to take any moral high-ground.

At no time was I attacking mountainbikers or roadies or crawling babies for that matter. Some just cannot read. And some people's intellect and judgement is extremely clouded by prejudice, by expecting the worst from others. Now my intentions are questioned? Now I am told off?

Sheez people, enough already.

Dude, this is the internet.

If you can't deal with a "character" attack every now and then, you're gonna have a bad time.

And frankly, the tone of your posts is inviting negative reactions.

Kindly close this thread.

I had all good intentions to look out for the safety of others. I did question why cyclists would put themselves in harm when they have the tools to do otherwise.

Obviously it was a big mistake. I will mind my own business in the future.

I do apologise for any guy, girl, baby I offended by stating and questioning the obvious.

Stay safe out there. If you do, the chances are slim for a daft idiot like myself to be commenting on it.

Thanks

You're not yielding.

Or moving an inch to adjust your style of correspondence.

Seems like your cup is full.

Asking for the thread to be closed is a bit silly. Childish actually. You started it. You reacted. Now face it. St least things have calmed down a bit here towards the end.

You made a point, you were unhappy about how people replied and what they replied, and so you threw your toys out of the cot. This became a back and forth mud slinging.

Clearly we as cyclists don't agree on this, clearly we are very divided and clearly we are very emotional about road safety.

This is just the Internet. Relax.

You merely wanted to state your view and did not want to understand why cyclists (mtb-ers in particular) use roads from time to time. You should rather blog if you cannot open your mind a smidgen to try and understand someone else's thinking.

So SA is unsafe, does than mean we should all pack up and go to Aus, or do we stick around?

To the contrary - and again repeating myself, I was questioning why a group of cyclists would want to put themselves in danger by riding in the road, with their mtb, when they can just venture 1,5m left onto the dirt and in doing so, be safer. Again, there is NO yellow line shoulder.

I have no problem with anyone riding their mtb on tar - I do it too at times.

It was clear that those that decided to ridicule me, did not read my first post nor the following ones explaining my true intentions.

I never attacked anyone at the beginning. I did become angered and reacted accordingly when people just cannot read.

That I do apologise for.

Why do I ask for the thread to be closed? Somewhere between what I type and what people read, meaning is lost. Then the obvious reaction would be to ridicule. Nothing constructive was added by those that ridicule.

Don't you think the prerogative lies with the OP to request closing a thread if nothing constructive comes from it?

Agreed.Shut it down so we will not see you carrying on defending your rather silly post

You want to know why people ride their MTB on tar when there is a gravel shoulder: Because they want too.

Because they don't want to get their bike dirty.................

Yip, it is rather silly to look out for fellow cyclists.

I truly hope nobody is killed on this road.

I do apologise for my sillyness.

(Oh no, now I reacted to your trolling...! Dammit I just cannot win....)

My 2 cents:

  • Victim blaming is ridiculous.
  • Advocating for family and friends to reduce their odds of becoming a victim is not victim blaming. (we are all friends right?)
  • Advocating for avoiding danger does not mean you think motorists should be excused, or that road safety shouldn't be addressed.

Stay safe out there amigos

Hairy, seeing as you ride your MTB on tar every day - did the movie okes block the whole cycle path before Woodbridge Island this morning or was there place to get passed?
