I’m in the market for a plus bike. I’m looking new, as the 2nd hand choices are limited/nada

The choices are:

Scott Scale 720 – Rock Shox Recon Silver, 2x10 SLX/Deore gruppo, Syncros dropper, Syncros wheelset ±25K

Merida Big Trail 800 – Rock Shox Yari, 1x11 SLX gruppo (XT RD, 11-46 cassette), Merida dropper, Merida wheelset, ±28K

Spez Fuse Comp – Suntour Raidon, 1x10 Sram X5/7 gruppo, Spez finishes and WTB 45mm (internal) wheelset ±25K

Silverback Sphere – Manitou Machete.Magnum, 1x11 Sram GX, WTB wheelset, pricing in 28K ballpark… Not too keen on the 29+ model though (i'm a medium)...

All have similar geometry (LSG), similar travel up front (±120mm) and either 2.8” or 3” tyres and come with internal routed droppers. All are boost front/rear. I like the idea of lobbing on a 29er wheelset for XC stuff while sitting on the same bike (I'm cheap, OK). Otherwise I’ll be riding will be Tbl Mtn/Tokai-type stuff.

Can anyone give any insight based on more than what I know. If there are any bikes I've missed at the price-points above, please weigh in. FWIW I like what the Merida looks like on paper - 1x and a decent fork.

Thanks in advance

I have the Spez Fuse in that Spec, the fork is a let down as well as the groupset and rear hub, I have already replaced the rear hub with a Novatec as the original is so shitty!

All bad points aside I love my Fuse! In fact any plus bike is a win!

Out of those the Merida looks the best on paper! Yari! SLX! all winning, but is it 3.0 or 2.8?

Been saying this for a long time - Spez is overpriced for what you get. I would go for the Scott

Lets be honest here, the Scott is a very similar spec, I would rate the Suntour fork on the Fuse above the Recon...

I have a friend that only had problems with his fuse , eventually just took it back and asked for A refund.

May be an isolated case but it was bad.

I have the 2016 Fuse Comp and really enjoy it. No problems thus far but I have to admit the specs are very basic and will upgrade this when needed. I will stay away from the 29+ bikes but scott and merida also looks good.

Was probably that POS hub giving all the headaches!

How they spec a bike in 2016 (Thats the model of mine) with loose ball bearing hubs... wtf!

Only the Spez has 3.0" shoes. Rest are 2.8. Probably cheaper changing rubber than a fork... Must say, I like the idea of the 11-46 on the Merida... Or perhaps that's my piddly legs talking...

What did you go for?!

I ended up with the entry-level Jeffsy.... Can't say I'm disappointed. Still getting to grips with it and running out of talent regularly
