ClydeB1 Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Join Trek Bikes South Africa and legendary cyclist, Jens Voigt, for an exclusive sunset cycle in Johannesburg on the 7th March 2017 or in Cape Town on 10th March. This is NOT a race. It’s a fun cycle. So bring friends and family along. We’re challenging all cyclists. Both serious and hobbyist, in two cities, to help us raise funds for non-profit, Qhubeka. You dont need a Trek Bicycle to ride. All are welcome. Trek will donate R10 for each rider registered. Registration is free. Our goal is reach R15 000.00. We need at least 1500 riders to make this possible. “Will you be part of this legendary ride?” For more details about the respective events and to register for the ride in your area visit http://www.mytrek.co.za
BuffsVintageBikes Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Sounds great but with 1500 cyclists... will there be road closure and traffic marshals etc.?
ClydeB1 Posted February 13, 2017 Author Posted February 13, 2017 Sounds great but with 1500 cyclists... will there be road closure and traffic marshals etc.?Good point. I'm just posting to get the word out as I saw this on FB and haven't seen any mention in hubland as yet. One would hope that Trek SA will would plan marshals at the very least especially given that the actual rides only start at 4pm.
Slowbee Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 march the 7th, is a tuesday. do you have an idea where this event is going to be held ? if it is anywhere within the CT area, I want to stay away. Traffic is going to be chaos, especially at 4pm.
Patchelicious Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Who is Jens Voigt? Is it Angelina Jolie's uncle or something?

Tubehunter Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Who is Jens Voigt? Is it Angelina Jolie's uncle or something? Ja, John's brother Jens.. Separated at birth.
Skinnyone Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 I am sure you need to register before hand so they would know how many marshals etc to arrange, no point in arranging for 20+ marshals to be there for 30 riders... there is also the catering aspect as well?
Fat Boab Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Who is Jens Voigt? Is it Angelina Jolie's uncle or something? He seems to be some such tandem, quad rider??

Fat Boab Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Looks like Trek anticipated your question https://mytrek.co.za/home/jens-voigt/ I don't know - he seems a bit faceless to me.....
TheJ Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Met Jens at the 2013 TdF. Driving back to our overnight B&B we (luckily) got a bit lost and saw the Trek team's busses outside a roadside hotel. Turned the car around and gate crashed. Spoke to a team helper who said Jens was just busy with he massage but he'll call him afterwards. Sat outside nervously drinking a glass of something, Few minutes later, behind me, "Well Hello!". Mr. Voigt. Awesome guy.
