Cool with me - I was too lazy to reduce the GPX file size to meet Hub requirements ;)

:-)  ... make route on strava from activity, then export gpx from route.. nice and small . .. and can be done with any public activity.. no special perms needed

Food at the checkpoints is fine. My 2c will be to have dry kit in your boxes, it gets cold and sweat drenched kit does not help after you cooled down a bit after a stop at the checkpoints.

Do not take a lot of extra food, the main checkpoints have boerie rolls, sosaties ,rusks.tea koffie .There is more than enough, the waterpoints are also well stocked .

This is a super well organized race.

****,last year we started right at the back of the field the pace was super chilled,,big bunches all chatting, this race only starts after 200k when everyone goes into their own little zone.

remember clear glasses its super dusty in the bunch

Date balls. I reckon I ate about 25 last year!

The alternative solution to the sweaty kit problem is to keep the stops short. Even if you just cruise slowly for a kilometre or two, that's a kilometre or two less that you have to worry about. Milling around for ages at checkpoints just makes you not want to leave the sanctuary and head out into the cold dark night!

what's the deal with road closures for getting there?

meiringspoort and swartberg pass closed, if you're coming from jhb/bloem/n1, it's quite a hike around on smaller roads. so good luck to those doing that

Meiringspoort has been open since Monday last week already.

Howzit guys, I am looking to find people to join up to make a slow bus. 18 to 20 kph moving speed average and with strict water point and feed zone time management we can easily do 22 to 24 hrs total.

We will start off slow and keep it that way hopefully upping the pace from the last feed zone.

I am way unfit but if I keep to the plan it is doable.

Any takers?

We are aiming for the same time and speed. Look out for the Stubborn Slugs. Start slow..ease off

Ok, so the tyre blow out on the car on the way to oudthoorn was the last straw .. not doing it this year.

So my entry up for grabs (if one can still do subs) (for free) and 3 nights accomodation for 2 at b&b (we just paid deposit, so R1150 outstanding)

PM me if interested

Come on - when you cross the line on Saturday afternoon, a tyre blowout will seem like such a trivial and arb life experience ;)
