Crashed, do I need to replace helmet?

So I took a tumble today going down trail with lots of loose rocks. My helmet really saved my bacon as I hit my head on one of the rocks, as you can see from the pic. Do I need to replace it now?

Yes. The helmet has had the foam compressed where the dent is. Any other fall that has an impact to that exact same area using this helmet again and the force of what you hit will go through to your head.

toss it its done

it did its job though

don't know where you got it but some helmets (brands) carry a crash replacement discount if you kept slip and return to original vendor  etc

Looks superficial to me. I'd keep it if it's not cracked on the inside. Then again, I'm the last person to take advice from. Mine is 2 crashes old and cracked on the inside. Keep promising myself to get a new one.

You may be safer without the helmet. LOL

Thanks guys, I will follow your advice.

It is a Giant Rail, bought from my lbs. Any idea if Giant do crash replacement?

phone and ask before you buy a new one if the giant doesn't have a replacement discount maybe the LBS will offer you some kind of discount instead (ask them :whistling: )

Play it safe, get a new one even if it's not cracked. That dent is enough to compromise integrity for another crash in the same area.

1500 for a new helmet is a LOT cheaper than the hospital bills. My last crash cost 60k in hospital bills coz of a head injury and some broken bones.

Will definitely replace, off to the shop tomorrow. After a fall like that and seeing the pointy ass rock my head hit, I am not willing to take a chance.

Luckily my bike didn't get damaged, but wrote off my shirt and baggies, ripped to shreds.

Otherwise just road (or trail) rash, lots of it but I have had worse.

When looking at helmets recently I recall the giant range did offer a discount on replacements.......best to confirm with the lbs though.

That helmet is toast, served it's purpose and deserves to be laid to rest now.

Yes you SHOULD replace it. However, if you are like me, you won't necessarily actually replace it. My old Giro from 2009 is still doing duty...they are supposed to have a shelf life of 2 years, or something. Hasn't been crashed though.
