Hello all! Apologies for my silence on this thread - I was lucky enough to go on a trip immediately after Eroica. Thanks so much to all of you who came and made our second Eroica a huge success! I hope our event will grow much bigger from next year on.

And thanks for all the compliments! I'm very happy you all had a great time. I know I did.

For those of you new to the idea and concept of Eroica - start hunting for an old steel road bike and come join us next year in Montagu on the weekend of 17 March 2018.

Stan.

Ps. This image is from our unofficial coffee ride the next morning : )

Hey guys,

I'm starting my planning early for my first Eroica in 2018. I've got the bike, got the legs (i think), just need to source some period correct kit.

My question to those that have done the ride before: what gear ratios are you using? and what are the limitations of these old derailleur cages as far as cassette size goes?

I'm used to riding a compact crankset so this 53/39 business is taking some getting used to

I just found out that Luciano Berutti, probably the best known eroica, died sometime in August. Apparently he went out riding near his hometown and was found dead next to the road and to his beloved bike. Some of you might have seen him or met him at the 1st Eroica South Africa in 2016, which he came to do, all the way from Italy. Sad news, but a fitting way to go for someone as passionate about cycling as he was. May you never have another puncture Luciano.

It's the weekend after the Argus again, so, yes, I'll be doing it with the whole DJR crew. This far we are aiming for the 90kms, but thinking about the 140?

hmmmmmmm, yes i think we will have to do this one! prices are in Euros, adds some panache to it - enter before the whole Zuma NDZ/ Moyane/Nuclear (select your favourite potential clusterf$%^) sends the rand/EUR to the roof.

don't have a bike that fits the bill, but it's not totally restricted  and you know N+1
