Argus Nutrition?

The first year the outer checkpoints were introduced, about 2013, the queue got held up behind a EE or FF numbered rider trying to find his start card in his pockets.  At 5:45 in the morning.

His bike had 4 bottles, 2 on the frame and 2 TT style on the saddle. As he emptied all his pockets of about 20 tin foil wrapped items and gels someone asked him what he was carrying. Boiled potatoes and sale, hard boiled eggs, some sandwiches, biltong, dates and gels. Why was the question. It's a long ride you know came the reply. A few As and Bs looked at their one water bottle and chuckled when on chirped It's the Argus, not the Epic.

So, what do you guys use ito race food/nutrition/energy drinks for the Argus?

Nothing. There are free bacon and egg toasted butter sandwiches up wynberg hill, usually with a glass of champers.

There is usually free coffee somewhere between kalk bay and simonstown.

There is free wine and snacks (biltong, banana, pancakes) going past Scarborough. They also have good loo's.

Its a long wait till Noordhoek, where its usually beer and lunch, usually with someone having a braai. (No chappies though)

Then Houtbay has a concoction of beer and or wine and or champagne and or coffee and or tequila shots, and or fish and chips and or calamari and chips. All depends on who is sitting roadside.

Camps Bay is usually more civilized and its cocktails, most likely mojito's for the afternoon.

Nutrition AND hydration sorted.

Phew! Glad that there's enough hydration then!

Second best part of 2015 Argus after the mandatory sub 3 for the entire field was the ability to stop and enjoy the hospitality on offer along the route.

I made up for years and years of passing them all by.

Second tandem lap this year promises to be an stop and go experience as a few of us lug our kids around the course eating and drinking what is on offer en route rather than carrying anything ourselves.
