The cyclo sportif race has been postponed, but there is a new WACT ride taking place at the same time and place, to ease the pain of the CTCT disappointment I guess. (WACT - Week After Cycle Tour)

Check PPA Website for details.

NEWSFLASH All dressed up and nowhere to go? Join us for the WACT Ride!

We are so sorry that things did not work out for the 2017 Cycle Tour yesterday, but applaud the decision by the organisers to put the safety of the participants first. But should you let the fitness you’ve worked so hard to build up for the Cycle Tour, go to waste?

We have a solution for you: Join us on Sunday 19 March 2017 in Malmesbury for the 102 km  WACT Ride (Week After Cycle Tour ride).

And even better news: If you had entered the 2017 Cycle Tour, we’ll give you a R50 discount on the WACT Ride entry fee, in order to help you where we can.

Originally we were going to organise the ‘Cyclosportif #1’ on 19 March, but there was not a lot of enthusiasm prior to the Cycle Tour and the event was therefore postponed. Since yesterday, however, the emails have not stopped coming in from riders now looking for a ride. So this morning we’ve reapplied for event permissions and tweaked the event logistics to make the entry fee as low as possible, cutting out medals and the planned light meal, in order to bring you a fab and affordable 102 km ride. (Timing, medics, marshals and all the other logistics will all be in place, though.)

The long-term weather forecast is for a hot day (30 degrees after lunch), but for a gentle breeze of 4 m/s from the south-southeast from 08h00-14h00 – so no Cycle Tour gale-force wind!

We are waiting for the final traffic permissions to come in just after lunchtime today and will then open the online entries as soon as we have that final go-ahead. Online entries will stay open until 22h00 on Thursday 16 March. Late entries (at an additional fee) will be taken manually at the event.

THE DETAILS

The event:    WACT Ride

The date:      Sunday 19 March 2017

The venue:   Malmesbury show grounds

The start time: 07h00

The route:    102 km: Malmesbury > Hermon > Wellington > Voorpaardeberg > Malmesbury

The entry fee:   Online entries: R200 for riders who had entered the 2017 Cape Town Cycle Tour; R250 for those who had not. Late entry fee of R350 on the day. *Due to the 2017 Cycle Tour having been cancelled, for the 2017 WACT Ride there will be one entry fee for PPA members and non-members alike.

Enquiries:            Rozanne@pedalpower.org.za

Please keep an eye on the Pedal Power Association website – we’ll put the entries link up the second we receive that final ‘okay’ today from traffic, and in the meantime – please spread the good news! We really look forward to giving you this opportunity to come and get WACT with us :-)

Note: All cyclists who had pre-entered the Cyclosportif #1, will be contacted via email today.

So apparently they had only 20 entries for the Sportif which is a poor show.

Who's riding the new WACT ride at Malmesbury next Sunday. Don't make me do it alone.

Most other PPA events that been cancelled had full refund.  So lets wait and see :-)

Posted after spending too much time on the CTCT threads. Mean't it to be tongue in cheek. Hope you get a refund though.

I'll be there.

If I can just enter...

Anyone else having trouble entering? Getting "WACT ride closed".

I was tempted, but I would rather not put my "safety" into the hands of the race organisers who will then promptly cancel the race

Given how you are entering every single mtb race on the calender today I now see why you need that refund so badly

 well said! Yeah I blew my budget for this month and next month. But at least I know it was a wise investment. Those events are 100% guaranteed to start, unlike certain roadie rides  :whistling:
