So i sit with a dilemma. was at the cop shop this morning. They said i must make real sure before i lay a charge because it will be a criminal charge. The kid is 22yr and apparently a medical student. Maybe he is just trying to score a few bucks and does not realize the full extent of his actions but this will sit over his head for the rest of his life.

As a doctor anywhere where he will apply for a job they will do criminal checks and see he has a history...what to do what to do?

This guy is old enough to know better.  As a medical student, he should also be more mature than the "average" 22 year old.  He is also a 5th year, and at Tygerberg that means he will become a student intern in a few months (at Tyg we have 18months of SI work before graduating and completing our "real internships")

It is time for this boy to wake up and learn that there are consequences for his actions.  I suggest both of you gentlemen open a case with the cops.

Score a few bucks? Really?

As in stealing a phone and sell it to make a few bucks?

I get what you are saying, but I wish my life choices could've been discussed on a public forum before someone made a decision on whether it was good for me or not.

He should get a reality check and wake up.

Yoh... I ignored this thread for days as I thought it was about some triathlon something.

This is insane!

This guy is all sorts of dodgy. The kind who would sell hospital drugs on the street while doing his internship.

I would actually approach his head of faculty/institution with all the evidence and have a sit down with the 2 of them.

Explain your dilema and make it known you don't want him to suffer forever.

The school will have his and your best interest at heart. He is also unable to ignore his Dean for fear of expulsion.

Aaaaw, the kid might get in trouble if you open a case...... Poor thingy....

Crime is crime, no matter how small. Period.

Actions have consequences-always. The sooner he learns this the better

You might be thinking of letting this one slide, but in doing so you are indirectly encouraging him to go out and steal from someone else.

Im a firm believer in a lesson I learned early on in life...

You can do absolutely anything you want, but your actions always have consequences.

This guy willingly entered into agreements he didnt intend to honor, he has not committed the actions and its time to face the consequences. There has been more than enough time to make amends, yet all he has done is ignore communications.

Its time for him to learn a life lesson, in his case its going to be one he remembers for a long time to come.

I have to admit, I have over reacted once when I had sent goods and money had not been paid over to me. In my case turns out the buyer was just a more laid guy who did not see the point in communicating delays with me - wasn't right, but the guy was no skelm.

This, on the other hand, is criminal plain and simple. The fact that he is a med student should have no bearing on the situation. If this was any other person aged 23, charges would have been laid already. This kid needs to learn from his mistakes.

And just from my limited 2nd hand knowledge of some of the young doctors these days (my wife is a doc) - there are too many of them that do not know there are consequences to their actions - let's make that list a little shorter...

This is the first time I saw the Forum, and I'm glad to see it, as I've had a scenario myself, but thought to be gracious towards this chap, and just move on. But he clearly REPEAT his behavior, and that needs to be stopped.

My Story:

Trilad placed an ad on Bikehub for a set of Look S-Track Race pedals, with a photo, for R950 for the set. I was obviously interested, as were a few others that replied, one hubber even asking, "Is this definitely the Race version".

So I phoned the guy, and said I can meet him in Somerset West today, then he said, he is in Worcester. I said well thats fine, Im in that area in two days time, will meet up then. Long story short, I met him with the cash, he hands me the pedals,..and its the standard Look pedals, with one side's cleat missing, saying he must look for it at home.

I told him dude, this is not the Race version, and CWC is selling this, complete with cleats for R750!!

So he asked me what I'd offer him, and given a set of cleats is R250, I offered him R450 for the two pedals.

I was PISSED. But what concerned me the most, was when I got back in my vehicle, he said, "Hey, if you feel you want to upgrade to the Race, you got my number, let me know, I can maybe organize something." ????

The two days later, I saw he placed another ad, and this time had Lainsburg as residing area,....just dodge.

Anyway,that's me..

I noticed he blocked my cellphone number now as well. It immediately goes to standard not available message but when i phone from another number it just rings.

Well at least you have your answer, time to go ahead with the police case.

Set a reasonable date, keep trying to communicate - if he doesn't respond/make good by that date then head to the police. By all accounts he has been on the hub and read this thread so he knows where the trail leads. His choice now....

Yes i have smsed, whatsapped him to tell him what the date and time is and then i will take it further. Also made it very clear that i will be going to the police and the police told me when i was there that it will be a criminal offence which will be prosecuted. So i really hope he reads this and comes into contact with me and the other 2 guys he owes money to.

Otherwise this stupid thing will hang over his head for the rest of his life.

That's reasonable and fair I reckon. Best outcome is him coming clean but for too long criminal's in SA have been given too many chances. Actions have consequences. Well played sir.

The fact that he has taken deliberate actions to block you communicating with him tells me he isnt trying to make it right.

Its not so great when you are the victim of these things, but by taking the steps you are it will help others avoid the same fate in future.

I have been reading this thread when it pops up as I'm always interested in Tri stuff. Now having seen the photo's I realised I know this guy. I'm trying to find out as much as I can about his whereabouts and what he is doing as I haven't seen him for a while.

When I met him we were on our way to Oak Valley and he was bragging that he had 8 bikes one of which was a Pinarello Dogma and he was sponsored by Cycle lab. He was the national U18 time trial champion and he was looking into studying in Australia as they had a better cycling program. After hearing all this I watched him face plant OTB at the first ramp and realised this guy was perhaps not what he made himself out to be.

I also used to see him sitting at the front of VA spin classes. His thing was to casually do a relaxed program totally different to what the class was doing then about two thirds into the class he would remove his jacket to reveal SA colours shirt and proceed to spin like his life depended on it for an interval or two. Another time I saw him he told me he was only doing triathlons from now on, the SA colours were gone and he had managed to get hold of a WP tri suit which he proudly wore around the gym. I have to say this is perhaps one of the most flamboyant liars I have ever met and sadly I have met a few. I wouldn't trust a word he says.
