I've also wondered about the quality of couple of pairs of Giro Monaco.

I've put in down to sizing, and while I've opted for the smaller.of two sizes and like the fit, may be stressing the stitching a little bit.

Check your sizing...

how much did they cost?

R375 from Dial'd Bikes, I was trying to find a link for you, they don't seem to have them in stock any more. These are the ones:

MX Alliance have some decent looking gloves, I would go for something like this, not too bad at R449:

I had a set of Fox Inclines years ago which I liked and which lasted well. Then I tried various other cheapish full-finger ones from Rav-X and the like, none of which lasted very well. One set lasted about two weeks, I think. They just disintegrated. Most others eventually opened up at the end of my index finger. Then I managed to get another set of Fox Inclines (a newer model), and I’ve been blown away by how long they’ve lasted. They must be a couple of years old now, and there’s a little fraying around the seams and abrasion on the edge of the palms, but no holes yet! I actually got two sets of Royal gloves at the same time, but they’re still sitting in the cupboard waiting for when the Inclines wear out.

They’re not very flashy, and they’re pretty thin, but that’s just how I like ’em. And they have a nice big snot-wipe. I haven’t been able to find them online the last few times I’ve looked, which is a shame, as I’d happily replace mine with the same when they do eventually wear out. To be fair, they haven’t had much contact with the dirt, but all the other gloves I’ve ever used have worn out much much quicker, dirt or not.

I ride all sorts, from BMX to trials, jumps, trails, DH, XC, and marathon, and these suit me for everything I do.

I have actually started using one pair of my Royals − the Crown, I think − just when my Inclines are in the wash or to keep with my full-face helmet. They’re also great so far, but I haven’t used them enough to comment on their durability. They’re also pretty thin, but maybe not quite as breathable as the Inclines.
