Noob question about Western Cape road race calendar

For interest I compared the times between riders in cat 1 and cat 3 for the Burgundy Estate crit to give you an idea of the difference in speed. If somebody can give me a Strava link for a cat 2 rider I can also add that. Note that for cat 1 it was for a group rider and not the winning break.

The lap was about 1.45km long, pancake flat and with about 8 sharp corners.

As far as I know you would need to get a timing chip, but please confirm this with WPCA. It's also a matter of keeping the results accurate. Results are also sometimes visually verified, and if you finish top 10 for instance, you could confuse the results and points awarded. In many past instances riders have been asked to ID other riders and their finish orders so that accurate results can be published and the correct points allocated.

... and here is what happens when you don't have a timing chip (or it doesn't work) . Please help ID the riders in question at the end of the WPCycling post - http://www.wpcycling.com/road-news/results-ottery/

Thats why a racetec chip is nicer, my one is from 2004 and still going strong. I bought one of these, but its just another thing to lose. Looks like its cat 3 :P

Using Racetec for WP League timing would result in increased entry fees (renting a timing system Vs using one that is owned by WP Cycling). Racetec timing needs mats and doesn't have photo finish results ;-) .. it's only R100 for the Mobii chip, and if your current seeding puts you above CAT3 you will have no choice ... ;-)

Still dont think its vital to have a chip, if you are not keen to improve WP seeding or dont care if came 36 or 45, dont see the issue.

?? The issue is plain to see if you read the WP Cycling post. Your opinion is probably in the minority of riders who don't care for the results, but other participants do care - for them, it's what they paid for .. accurate results for their hard-earned efforts, no matter the category. The league administrators work voluntarily and league participants would like to see accurate and prompt results. Being held up with issues of rider identification, and being put under pressure to post results, is frustrating and unfair.

Touche, will sort myself out when get some time.

Would be nice though if these races could improve PPA seeding :P

Maybe PPA should sponsor the mats etc for the WP events, can be their help towards road cycling, then no increased entrance fee. (Racetec does have photo finish capabilities   )

In that case, those guys should be jumping up and down sending in garmin files and sorting the issue out. Understand the issue though for the organiser, would just publish without them.

Great killarney crit [emoji106]

Perfect weather for the killarney crit as well as large bunches made breakaways impossible.

Average speeds:

Cat 3: 40,5 km/h

Cat 2: 42,5 km/h

Cat 1: 45,1 km/h

It was quite an adrenaline rush in cat 3 with erratic riders that resulted in two huge crashes.

For me it was very enjoyable as I did not crash

It was Chaos in Cat 3, dangerous riding all over the place with one big crash. Does anyone have any news about about the lady that went down, it looked serious.

Does WPCA have a seeding?! As far as I know they use PPA seeding for a guide to your category and your WPCA results doesn't count for any seeding.

Also, the chip is only to have an official result with points for the autumn/winter league. But has anybody seen anything about a 'GC' type points table for the league?
