Silverback Sesta Comp or Trek Top Fuel 8

I have been out of MTBing for a while, focusing on triathlon over the last 6 years or so. I am now in the market for a new MTB: full suspension for doing mostly stage races.

My LBS has the following options in the price bracket I am looking at:

Silverback Sesta Comp and Trek Top Fuel 8, both will be converted to 1x11 at about the same cost.

With my limited knowledge the pros and cons are:

SB has a carbon frame, Trek alu, but does have a lifetime warranty

SB obviously lighter, probably about 1-1.5kgs

Trek's front and rear suspension is better than SB

For the rest of the components I need some help in deciding which trumps the other.

Definitely the Sesta. I think the Sesta has the superior fork, the Fox is just a performance not a FIT. As far as the other components I took a quick look and it seems all components on the Sesta is better. And carbon frame vs alu I wont take a 2nd look at the Trek.

Just make 100% sure of the specs, a lot of times spec on bikes in SA is not the same as on the manufactures international web sites

New Fox performance fork has GRIP damper - apparently just as good as FIT, and probably on par with Reba.

But overall, Silverback looks fine if not better.

Based on experience with Fox and RS it is a requirement for me that a new bike must have a RS fork. I`m not willing to gamble on whether Fox is better now or not, I already know the Reba is a great fork.

Based on current trend, just watch your seatpost clamp torque with the carbon frame. Find out who gives the better after market service should something go wrong and what exactly do they mean by LIFETIME warranty as what they mean might not be what you think it means.

Howzit

I had a trek superfly100 that I sold, bought a sesta pro frame and custom build it the way I wanted it. You will not be sorry! It climbs almost like a hardtail and plush on the downhills.

DO IT!!!!
