I know a few people who take Mypaid/Myprodol before rides as a preventative for headaches. To me this is a very bad idea... what should they be doing instead? Not riding due to headaches is not an option. Water intake does not seem to effect the onset or severity of the headaches, both are women between 25 and 35 of age.

VERY bad Idea. Will try to answer later.

What about mini-aspirin. Is that a NSAID? I thought it reduced risk of heart attacks?

Same stuff as aspirin - just low dose - reduces blood clotting rates primarily and thus has a beneficial effect that you don't get clotting to the same extent as normal in narrowed arteries.

But it is still an nsaid.

Having seen the effects of someone taking too many painkillers, when sleep deprevated during an ultra endurance event and it was scray to say the least, I won't touch them around an event ever. Your body is hurting because it wants you to stop what you are doing to recover, have the pain there and work through it but know it is there not to do more damage.

There are also far to many taking big pain meds for minor things like headaches.

The other thing I have questions about is Traumeel. Been told by many athletes to take it but I always have questions about

a) it is homeopathic

b) it contains mercurio-amidonitrate? Your thoughts on it V12?

Snake oil.. but I would have to look at its contents carefully to see exactly what it is...

Jinne V12, Talus

You okes missing a trick. You should set up a pay pal account. For every question you get asked and someone wants an answer, they put in $1 or $2 (dollar not rand).

I am totally dumbfound at some of these questions. Surely folk would know what they are putting in their bodies and the effect it has. Especially as athletes. I mean just ask the pharmacist or your doctor when the prescribe the meds about the impact they will have when you do sport.

Exactly.

I asked my pharmasist why I kept getting stiff during exercise. She looked at what I was taking and pointed out that disolving some Viagra in my water bottle will not extend my endurance during racing.

What about tumeric and ginger? Snake oil?

I have been taking curcumin pills, to what i think is beneficial effect for a niggly achilles and an often sore hip. I dunno if its just the placebo effect, but it seems to help. The question i have is if its safe to ride on it.

Side note. I was surprised at my doc telling me its safe to swim on cataflan, but i did anyway this past week, but it def aint a habit i think I should get into.

Cataflam is Diclofenac (aka Voltaren). Dehydrate enough while taking this and you can be added to a very long list of people waiting for a kidney transplant. If you are lucky you may get away with only dialysis for a while.

Traumeel is a much more sophisticated version of the magnetic wristband. Luckily people pay out of their own pocket for it so there is no cross subsidising from really sick people's funds.

Crikey, thanks doc.thats scary enough to take me cold turkey. Swam 3300 metres on the stuff the other night with no water breaks.

I've been diagnosed with reactive arthritis. I've got to take Cataflam twice a day now, down from 3 times. Without it certain joints are mostly crippled. Are there other options that work as well and aren't as dangerous?
