This "Hero of my Youth" had a fair few.

Thankfully, and it's certainly not because of my technical bike skills, I remain fairly unscathed. . . .

Cracked my pelvis when a car hit me from behind, then broke my arm a few years later when my daughter fell in front of me and I went over my bars.

I've had some bad ones but never anything with my pelvis or femur and I'm so happy something hasn't happened. To break those must take some serious impact

Yeah - Big bones like that have got to take ages to mend properly. If ever.

Broke both my hands in one crash many years ago.

Otherwise just skin, my ass looks like tartan cloth. Dunno why I used to shave my legs, they have always gone relatively unscathed, shoulda shaved my ass instead....

Injuries from cycling? A heavily sprained thumb. And I once had the brake lever stick into my thigh when I was little.... and I had very little skin left on any limb after going over the bars with a bmx with only front brakes (grew up in a hilly town, some hectic downhills for a laaitie)

But I played provincial hockey during my younger days...

#stretched ligaments in both ankles

#got hit with a stick across the mouth - luckily had braces at the time, just pushed teeth back into place

#had 8 stitches under one eye from being hit with a ball in the face at varsity

#had 5 stitches in upper lip to close the gaping hole from being hit again with a ball at school

#broken finger

#oh, and I cracked vertebrae L4 and L5 from falling after being tripped during training whilst running fullspeed

Most of my injuries are from hockey, ligaments (stretched ankle ligaments a torn ACL ..BTW after the torn ACL I took up cycling) broken fingers a broken hand.. a couple of blue eyes.

Stitches from mtb, but that is kinda normal.

[emoji23] ja, if you scared of blood you go play rugby

I remember now, also broke left hand. Luckily my ACL was intact. But I was hit with the ball on the inside of my knee during an attempted tackle. This left me with a serious hematoma, nerve damage and crutches for 7 weeks...

And had 8 stitches in forehead after colliding with the wall whilst playing squash

An acquaintance once told me that hockey was a far more dangerous sport than rugby. I agreed then. Still think so now. Hockey is pretty hectic. Damn good watching of the match is between two evenly matched and skilled teams.

In terms of injuries requiring medical attention then yes - hockey is more dangerous than rugby - but they have weapons on a hockey field...... so stands to reason that it would be so. Fortunately most hockey injuries are relatively minor cuts that require stitching only and sometimes concussion from a ball or stick to the head or face.

Rugby has less cuts but more broken bones relative to hockey and more life altering injuries like paralysis... although these are few and far between for both sports.

Kind of depends on your definition of dangerous.... the most dangerous sport ito fatalities per participant hour is probably lawn bowls...
